It is unique and finally something from BMW that is different and not another M car, or another M performance offering that is just not that exciting to the BMW (M) enthusiast IMHO.

I made the terrible terrible mistake of posting something like this on the tesla forums on an i8 vs tesla thread. I own a tesla roadster and was contemplating a p85d. But after the insane responses there I think I'm turned off from buying one.
I am so glad to see many i8 owners are experiencing the car the same way as I am, as something completely different from the pure electric or pure performance axis. I still don't think I fully understand it's dynamics yet....
