The plug has connections for 120vac, 240vac, and ? DC, so yes, properly optioned, the i3 can take a high-powered DC charge. The DC charge goes directly in, verses using the internal regulator, as I understand it.

The 120vac plug/cable comes with the car, the others require an appropriate charging station with cable.
