OK, if they can get 228hp out of the 1.5L, they should EASILY be able to get at least 460hp out of the 3.0L I6 version of this new modular 0.5L/cylinder engine platform. It should be able to achieve about the same torque per cylinder plus the inherent mechanical advantages of the I6 vs the I3 should allow it to rev higher, so at least the same if not slightly more HP per cyclinder.

So why are they releasing the M3/M4 with only 415hp? Seems to me they should have waited, if they needed to, to be able to use this new modular engine platform where they could get 460hp without breaking a sweat. It also begs the question about the power levels that future BMW V8s will start at. If you can easily and efficiently get 500+hp out of an I6, how many V8s do you actually build?

Not that I have any problem with that. I6s are great engines and better economy is always appreciated.
