I had my drivers door mirror clipped by a white van down a narrow lane which resulted fortunately of only breaking the outer cover.

This part is £64 about $80 I don't fancy paying the dealer another £100 for a 10 minute fitting job but to replace it requires the mirror to come out to access some screws which hold it in place

I know most owners go to the dealers but any one know the correct method of taking out the mirror ?
