I went to the test drive held at Center BMW in Sherman Oaks, CA, yesterday, and here are my thoughts:
- Steering feels a lot better than the F30
- Suspension tuning is very sporty, handles like a BMW should
- Use of sustainable materials is pretty neat
- Lots of torque off the line
- Regenerative braking is like lifting off in 1st gear to perform engine braking
- Decent amount of cargo space (except for the frunk)
- Great perk for i3 owners: if you need to take a long road trip, you can drop off your i3 at any BMW center and borrow a loaner
- Did I mention the torque?
- The range extender does not take up cargo space, but I don't believe the absence of the range extender allows you to utilize that space.
They did not have any models with the range extender, so I can't comment about that. I liked it a lot--I'd definitely buy one in the future. I bet it would be a real hoot to autocross it.
