I'm surprised at the reactions here. If it ain't broke don't fix it??? I work in continuous improvement and that is the antithesis of progress. Come on guys, BMW is on the forefront of technology and development, we should be praising their efforts!
There are so many concept cars that look amazing with super-slim mirrors, and then people are disappointed with reality when safety regulations make their mark. I remember when the E9x LCI was launched and everyone mocked the larger mirrors, those with older cars relishing in their one supposed win over the tweaked models.
I honestly think this is a much better solution than what we see from tesla, where the camera is embedded right in the door and there is nothing at all sticking out. I like the look of the stalks. It will take getting used to a new location for this information (in the mirror), but that's no reason to dismiss it right away.
Sticking a trailer mirror on the side? I hope you're not serious with that
