Well deserved.

Now stop driving like an asshole. Innocent lives are out there.

Thanks.

If you were in Illinois you would be be treated as felony .
Speed responsibly .I say when there is no traffic , your car is a high end car and the weather is fine why not stretch its legs a bit in straights .

Sometimes it is safer to drive 142mph on an empty stretch of motorway than 30mph (within the limits) in a school area.

The Germans understood this long ago and tried to make their drivers responsible rather than treat them like irresponsible idiots.

They don't have more accidents than other european countries.

It's a mentality thing.

There's a time and place for everything. A Florida interstate isn't the place for 142mph.
I applaud the abilities of the car, but come on......

I didn't see a time stamp and we don't know the conditions.

99% of the time this could be putting others at risk. But some very early mornings where the road is good and there are no other cars in sight and inlet/outlets so not even the possibility of anyone getting on the road, with a slight downslope so visibility is perfect...well that's usually the time to open her up.

Maybe that's what was going on here.

Wow with all the talk of supercars, tunes, and the latest thread of a 750HP new I8 in the works, why are there all of a sudden so many haters? So if he was going 90 MPH would you then be ok with it as if that would have been legal. I understand with many of us being responsible adults, I would doubt that one would be stupid enough to try that speed in traffic. Give the guy a break. He has an I8 and he opened it up as many if not all has either tried it or eventually going to. I'm not ashamed to say that I got mine up to 161! (By the way governed at 155MPH, false!)Say something!

Fastest I ever drove (true story) was an indicated 132 MPH. But it was in 1973. In a BMW 3.0CS. On Rosamond Blvd., which is the road from State 14 to Edwards Air Force Base.

I was civilian defense counsel defending a court martial. My military counterpart (every accused military member has detailed defense counsel whether or not private counsel is involved) was also the base prosecutor for traffic offenses. So I felt that I had diplomatic immunity.

I think the actual top speed was 126 MPH. The road was straight and clear and it was 5:30 a.m. But a lot of AF pilots had one car fatal collisions on that road -- usually in their Corvettes at the time -- so it had a bad reputation.

Since then I've hit 130 MPH indicated at the Irwindale Speedway in an M5 and an M6 at an M event back in 2007, but I generally avoid anything over 90 MPH on public roads. I've had the i8 up to 90 (and the M4 up to 92 MPH).

(PS: The 3.0CS drove beautifully at speed.)

I'm very glad that everyone gave him $h1t for basically bragging how he was driving at speeds on the highway that's just dumb in a limited speed zone. Since it's not on the Autobahn there is no real excuse unless you were being chased by a gang with guns.

I'm not gonna sit here and pretend like I don't speed occasionally but bragging about more than doubling the speed limit on a forum is kind of pathetic. The post could have just been "Got the i8 to 142mph, so it's fast" without disclosing anything else. I hope this was at 3am on the express lanes, with no other vehicles/pedestrians nearby, otherwise, grossly irresponsible.

When you get tickets like this the insurance companies use this data in combination with all the other tickets coming from i8 drivers, and guess what happens to everyone's insurance premium because of you? That's right all i8 insurance rates go up.

So thanks for bragging about going 142 miles and getting a ticket on the forum. You're basically giving us a back hand.

Exactly. The car is made for more than that! ;-)

My wife was just saying that she does that speed in the family Volvo all day long, with the kids in the back ( ... in Germany).

Don't worry. Impreza and Chellenger speeding tickets will outnumber i8 tickets by 1000:1. Communal penalty is much stronger elsewhere.

Contrary to the general mood, I'm not going to chastise you without knowing the circumstances. I happen to believe that speed limits are set by general policy, and by the lowest common denominator, i.e. "How can we keep Joe Shmoe in his 1975 Chevy Malibu safe when he has one headlight out, his tires are worn, and he is drunk?"

So, I personally take them as the letter of the law, yes; BUT I do believe in at least in my ability to judge a situation. Call me delirious, if you wish. If the road is clear and the weather doesn't pose problems, I don't see why you shouldn't go faster. It's not like every bit of highway and every traffic situation is checked before a speed limit is put up. And for general liability concerns, the speed limit may often be too low for a peticular stretch of road, but never too high.

So, ease up, people who have fast cars in their garage but think actually going fast is a crime by definition.

Definitely not the case man. I live in the state of Florida where this ticket was issued and I can attest that there are probably only a few hours in the day and a few roads in the state where it's "relatively safe" to drive at this speed. I think that's what some people are getting at here.

In California the manufacturer -- "make" -- and "body style" (2-dr, 4-dr, SUV) are handwritten on the ticket but not the model (in our case "i8"). And collecting all of that data (assuming it existed) and inputting it into a centralized location so that insurance companies could access it for rating purposes seems to be a lot of government work for private insurance companies. So I would tend to disbelieve what you have written. But I am open to being convinced otherwise. Would you happen to have proof of what you claim?

when did they start typing tickets? I have not been ticketed in 10 years. They use to fill them out with a pen.

First of all relax! I have lost someone to the irresponsible and selfish acts of an idiot driver, so how dare you. You failed to ask or mention any questions before you judged Dansarkis without knowing the full story. I do agree there is no reason to go that fast, but then again even a smart car can do 90 MPH. As for myself I was able to do that speed at Poconos raceway! So I don't know if it's me or is it that the majority of the I8 owners here just sound like old or middle aged men that think watching paint dry is exciting? Do you think a Lamborghini, Ferrari, Bugatti or any other supercar owner for that matter is saying "hey I was able to get her up to 90!" Some people here shouldn't buy or have any business owning an I8. Stick with a Prius or shut the front door!!
