You never install these with a GFCI breaker.

thanks, so assume your electrician didnt use gfci
i'm attaching the manual they gave me and section 3.4 calls for RCD which is similar to gfci. RCDs are used more in europe and i'm thinking they made a mistake in the translation. every other charger i've seen specifically state not to use gfci, not sure why this one needs one.
thanks

You should never use a GFCI breaker with an EV charger. Never.

Perhaps you should speak to a licensed electrician. I don’t even have an EV any longer, although I do drive a hybrid now. Best of luck.

2023 NEC code does require GFCI for outlets of 50amp or less in garages or outdoors. In my town it was required before as well. But VirtualGuitars is correct that you really don’t want one for an EVSE which is why it’s good to hardwire the EVSE.

The EVSE will have fault protection built in and having the two will cause occasional false trips. I’ve experienced nuisance tripping of the GFCI myself with one of our plug-in chargers in the garage while the hardwired EVSE has never had an issue. If you read through some of the installation manuals there will be mention of this.

Hardwired installation is the way to go if you can.
