Same here. In fact, that's also how the service bulletin describes it. I can hear it up to highway speed with the windows down, as long as I'm next to the guardrail or something like that.

Yes. That was one of my first thoughts, too. No change.

Interesting thought. But the way you hear it when moving, it seems pretty clear to me that it's coming from the front axle - only from there or front & rear, I can't tell.

It also changes in tight turns, like when going up/down a spiral ramp in a parking structure.

It sounds a bit like an electrical discharge, doesn't it? There is a slow downhill portion of my daily drive to the office, between a row of townhouses, and I can hear it very well. And to refute myself: switching off pedestrian warning does not remove it.

If you're handy with spanners it's very easy, I changed the full set of pads in less than 90 mins.

The hardest part is on the rear caliper as it has the electric handbrake so you have to remove the motor from the caliper to wind the piston back in, there are youtube videos for this (not i8 specific).

I changed the standard pads to Ferodo DS2500 up front, not the greatest pad, but certainly better than OEM compound, unfortunately I had to use EBC Yellow in the rear, but the car feels better for it.

Had it on track and didn't suffer any brake issues, when I had battery the only car I got overtaken by was a V10 R8, 997.2 GT3 RS and a R35, so was quite pleased

Mine has definitely stopped the stupid clicking noise since I changed the pads and reset the anti rattle clips.

Update: turns out that, when my car was in the shop the last time, they didn't actually change out the wheel bolts like they said they did. This time, they finally did it. My service guy also said they cleaned a re-greased the front wheel hubs. Noise is practically gone. Still there to a degree, but hard to notice now.

Anyone got an update on this? My i8 does this pretty loud now. Should I change the bolts? Or the pads as well?

I changed the wheels (Turbine in Summer, W-Style in Winter) and the bolts (other BMW compatible) and the noise is gone.

What service bulletin are you talking about?
Is it like a recall and bmw has to do it even after warranty has expired?
Have the same noise and thought I was crazy.
I live in Mexico, bmw service are very reluctant to work on i8, as not all have technicians with enough training to work on our cars
