I have my phone charger plugged into the passenger footwell, then the cable fits nicely between the gap on the centre console reaching over to the driver's side - quite tidy.

I keep my V1 connected to footwell outlet and my iPhone being charged from i8 usb socket at the same time, but at times when we travel with my daughter we need extra charging port

I thought that the cigarette sockets shut off after a few minutes when you have locked the car anyway - so it shouldn't be an issue.

Well.. I found a solution! This is short enough that will work. This is for android phones.
http://www.aukey.com/product/usb-car...r-adapter-ccs1

so then I bought this 90 degree micro USB cable.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If you have an iphone (editing as the last one i recommended didn't work) you might want to try one of these
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no...ee+usb+adapter
then your lightning cable.

Yes, different wiring for iphone vs. iphones.
for iphone cable lightning this should work
http://www.amazon.com/EMTEC-Ninety-i...e+iphone+cable

now, you can have a charging cable that fully charges your phone at full amperage/wattage with the armrest closed
That first link is dead for USB cigarette lighter charger. Where can I find this?

That was my set up but there's definitely a design fault here no matter what I try ,I can't get that lid stayed closed after plugging cables into that usb socket to charge things
You can not play music basically can't use it when you insert that micro usb into 12V socket

Not to be outdone, I bought another usb hub to use in the car and it works
