This is a timely video. If you all are not aware, Rich Benoit is the personality behind the Youtube channel Rich Rebuilds. He's gained fame for piecing together a functional Model S from two salvaged ones with no prior EV experience. He's gone on to do a bunch of crazy outlandish projects and launched his own EV repair shop called Electrified Garage. The video he just put out goes into the challenges and economics around replacing EV batteries (primarily focused on Teslas) from a EV repair shop owner's perspective.

He did bring up some things that I didn't even think of concerning the EV market. He said more and more people are purposely doing insurance fraud by purposely crashing their vehicles to total them out or vandalizing them. Of course you know what that'll do to insurance rates on these types of vehicles. This is outside of the insurance companies charging more due to higher repair costs with EVs or with the risk of EV fires. The other issue he brought up is in the used/auction market. What looks to be a perfectly fine car that seems to only need body repairs will actually be more when the new owner discovers the battery is shot too.

Ford is scaling back plans for a $3.5 billion battery plant in Michigan as consumers shift to electric vehicles more slowly than expected, labor costs rise and the company moves to cut costs.

Ford announced the facility in February. It quickly became a political target due to a licensing deal with Chinese battery manufacturer Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., or CATL.

The company said Tuesday it is cutting production capacity by roughly 43% to 20 gigawatt hours per year and reducing expected employment from 2,500 jobs to 1,700 jobs.

California-based startup Pebble Mobility has invented a self-propelled, self-powered, remote-controlled trailer. The 25-foot vehicle sleeps four and has its own electric motor. It propels itself, saving on the power needed by the car dragging it.
“We have a generous EV battery on board and an integrated solar array over the rooftop of the travel trailer — so harnessing renewable energy from the sun and powering the entire vehicle,” said Bingrui Yang, CEO of Pebble.

^I'm not engineer, but wouldn't the battery and electric motor add weight which is the whole issue with towing? The Ford Lightning EV range drops to less than 1/2 as soon as you add a trailer. I'm not sure how this actually solves a problem without creating another. Maybe I need more coffee.
