I am still considering an I8, but not till after 2020 when the warranties expire.

I expect they will be under $50k if not less by then.

Coming to a specific car forum I expect to hear people rave and even defend their choice of car.

The I8 and NXS are about the same base price, with used I8's going for a lot less.

Two hybrids, two diffent philosophies, it's great to have selection and choice.

I think that I did enough research to make then "right" decision.
I've got to say, you made the right choice. I enjoy my i8, it's a great car, but the problem is, I'm not IN LOVE with the car. It lacks the power for me. I know a lot of people on the forums defend the i8's lack of power by stating something along the lines of "well then you don't really understand what they were trying to do with the i8 then..." but for me, it's just not there. It's a supercar and BMW's current flaghship, it should come with the performance to match.

The only 2 things I don't like on the NSX are the interior plastic parts and the front bumper. The grill reminds me too much of a TL/TSX/MDX. I'm sure there will be an aftermarket company out there that will make the front bumper/grille combination this car deserves. Also, since you bought it, I'm sure you can bespoke the interior as well...only if it bothers you.

Either way, congrats on making the right choice for you and enjoy! Be sure to post your review here after some time even though you didn't buy an i8, I'd love to read your thoughts after owning the car for a few months.

The i8 is awesome as a daily driver...much better than other faster cars I've had in that regard. The comfort, looks, tech and speed are all great to me. If you want super fast and more of a special ocassion car then Id personally get a Huracan over a NSX.

Mighty expensive too!
The real cost of ownership is CrAzY.

I wasn't thinking they'd go that low..but I've already seen a few used listings for $85K. So you might be right.

Gotta protect that itty bitty 3 cylinder from those owners.

The itty bitty motor is in the back where you can get to it. Up front is all radiators, 12v battery, and electrical stuff that's supposed to be non-serviceable.

The main reason you can't (or aren't supposed) to get the hood open is that it's super thin and lightweight - you might bend it! I'll try mine one day, but not outside if it's windy

ps the NSX looks sweet, I haven't seen one yet but might have to have a look.

People arguing over an i8 and an NSX.

They're both beautiful cars. All are very fortunate to have the choice of either/or

Well that and it's a double hinged mechanism - you have to lift the hood up and then tilt it forward, otherwise the nose will bend into the grille and cause damage.

I understand heavymetals' thinking exactly. I was going to buy a new Patek Philippe complicated watch but when I learned that I couldn't open the case very easily i said screw it. I want to be able to open the case and service the parts myself.

I am also taking up brain surgery in my spare time. On my friends. I mean, what the hell, if I can't open them up and service them, too, what kind of friends are they?

Edited to add: I hope heavymetals posts videos here of him opening up the NSX's hood and working on all those parts himself. I think he is going to have a great time. Of course, I think Acura is going to have an even better time when he limps the damn thing in after he has done some "work" on the car.

Malibu is right though he bought maybe the only car more complicated than the i8 bc he was mad he couldn't work on the i8 himself.....

Front mounted V6s are generally a nightmare to work on - I've tried a few. I can only imagine how much of a pain a mid-mounted V6 is. Still, I wouldn't complain if my i8 had that much firepower back there.

Agreed, point taken.

But there's no argument here.
The NSX has 3 more cyclinders, ~250 more ponies and easy access to a compartment full of user serviceable parts.

I was thinking HeavyMetal made another good point.. it probably won't be until after the warranties run out that DIY'ers will make significant progress.
Until then, the i8 is a black box.
