My iX50 is sitting at the local dealer waiting for a software update that is not available yet. It can't be sold until that is done. Was told it had 2 and still needs the third.

Anyone have any new info? My dealer is very unhelpful when it comes to giving info. My car has been at the port since December 22 and my dealer is like 8 miles away from the SoCal Port - which this even more torture. Hard to make decisions on what to do when I don't know if this car will be fixed any moment, weeks, months or never!

My dealer said today: “Parts are trickling for the recall, no time frame but at least some progress”.

New iX50 stuck at the dealer's on SW update

Good day. I am sitting in darkness as my brand new iX50 was ready to pick up at the dealer after the New Year's break when I was called by them claiming that BMW have requested them to keep it in their garage based a major SW update that is presumed to be released very soon and should extend mileage. Although nice to have, it is annoying for me as no one has been able to confirm the SW release date hence no confirmation of when I may pick up the new car - the previous one is virtually sold and I don't want to add mileage and risks of driving. Does anyone know more than I do?

It seems the same situation as mine, I wish someone at BMW will provide a solid reply

DM me your vin and I’ll run it through AOS to see what the deal is with the software. I don’t think there are any software recalls waiting for software from BMW at the mo

Happy to help. What your dealership is saying doesn't make sense. There are two recalls on your VIN: SME software and front drive unit.

The SME software was released in early December 2022 which as part of of ISTA 4.39.2x which also included the 11-22 iDrive update. If your dealer does not yet have it it's because they didn't download it. Heck, even I have those files.

The drive unit recall is also fairly new and parts will be in short supply at the start of the campaign.

Many thanks indeed, I am double checking with the dealer as they may tell a different story....

Thanks Hugo for checking mine. It is on the recall list so No Sale until drive unit replaced I guess. Hopefully March is what my SA thinks.

Spoken to my sales advisor today. Seems the dealers here are still waiting for next step instructions from BMW Canada. Really hope this wouldn’t take months to resolve.

I am in the same boat - need the 2 software issues resolved and the Electric Drive Unit replaced. My car is at the VPC in New Jersey and my dealer has no visibility into timing for replacement parts to arrive. Has anyone heard anything useful from their dealer on timing yet?

I have seen the BMW NA part advisory to dealers for Jan 2023 and so far the parts related to the drive unit recall are still in short supply. Essentially the dealers know nothing at this stage since the advisory does not include any timelines.

Besides loading your VIN on the BMW Recall site, how else do you know if you’re vehicle needs servicing for these recall campaigns? I show no open recalls on my vehicle and it already has 11/2022.44 on it. I only question it because the start of my production date was 10/21/2022. My dealer also advised that there were no open recalls when they received it on January 3rd. They said if there were I would not have been able to take delivery. Perhaps all of this may have been done at the VPC?

Is there any way to self-check if cars in the US that have already been delivered are impacted by this issue?

My production was in the window, but I took delivery in early Dec prior to the stop sale order. So far, nothing on the BMWUSA recall site.

You can look to see if you are already on version 11/2022.

Other than that, it is the recall website using your VIN.

Doesn’t look like you have any open recalls:

Anyone have any news? I'm getting depressed/angry. New deliveries are being made as we speak with functioning cars, while our vehicles just sit there like bricks. They should be taking those parts and putting them in our cars, not making new ones.

Still no news yet.

Saw another thread about the iX will be having new hardwares (LiDAR and iDrive that supports 8.5) from March production onwards. Anyone would give up the current car?

LiDAR is coming to new BMWs (SP21) starting 11/23 and will be on the 7-series first. There is NO confirmation that iX will get LiDAR. It's not mentioned on any of the BMW technical or dealer docs, nor is there a space in the grille for LiDAR whereas i7 has been engineered to fit a LiDAR sensor.

There is also no upgrade path for iDrive 8.5 in IX yet, and BMW have said that it would first come to t the i7 later this year.
