There is also no upgrade path for iDrive 8.5 in IX yet, and BMW have said that it would first come to t the i7 later this year.
So we are stuck with I drive 8🤣🤣

Anyone in the know isn’t going to tell us until it becomes public information.

Of course not. But, maybe someone can create a burner account and give us the inside scoop 🤣

The latest parts update from BMWNA (at least) mentioned that the parts are in short supply and assigned on priority basis.

I feel for you guys.

The front EDU delivery stop is due to a Beam Weld problem in the Front Drive Unit as a consequence the Drive Unit can fail mechanically.

Now here’s the problem - new front EDUs are required for all affected IX50, I4m50 and I7 vehicles globally - and EDUs are also required for vehicle production - so there’s obviously not enough EDUs to go around.
Also “Tooling” has to be manufactured and supplied to the dealers as well as training to make the “local” EDU change possible.

I had an affected vehicle put on delivery stop the day before arrival!! I then decided to cancel the vehicle as this issue will take weeks to resolve and didn’t like the idea of a brand new car having had major surgery!

The ironic thing for me is that my IX50 build had the Air Suspension and AWS and when I went to re-order, you can no longer spec an ix50 with these essential items!! That’s a story in itself!

After all this aggravation, I now have an IXM60 on order which is fully loaded as standard and as its front EDU is slightly different to the 50’s, I’m praying there won’t be supply or quality problems???

This isn’t BMW’s finest hour!

Are you sure about that? Only the rear EDU was mentioned as having differences over the 40 and 50 EDUs. The part numbers for the front EDU is shared by all three lines.

Yup, which would make sense since the front EDU is not unique. Thank you for confirming

Well I had to bail on my order, that was placed literally March of 2022. Car has been sitting at the port since 12/22/22. We have a baby coming and we need a car. I am very lucky that another dealer in town had a identical car on the lot. We got it for MSRP thankfully. Will be picking it up this evening!

EEEEK!!

I was under the impression the M60 had a different gear ratio to handle the higher 150mph top speed !

If it’s the same then my scheduled build will probably be affected and when I check my Order, the factory has not confirmed the build date - only estimated! 😰

… also it’s an MY23 spec so even though MY24’s start build in March I doubt that will change my confirmed Order. 🤔

The top speed limiter is determined by what tires were ordered on the vehicle. Performance and high-performance tire options are set to 155 mph top speed. The all season tires have the top speed limiter set to 130 mph.

The gear ratio has nothing to do with the actual motor. The motor speed is the same across the lines, 15,400 rpm max. The reduction gears are different in different trims.

Just called my sales rep today. Interestingly he said he is unaware of any EDU replacement instruction from BMW Canada, but software update for i4 is now being pushed for deliveries and iX will follow suit early February. Anyone can confirm?
