Ok, so, no I8's came with this key correct? For ex a 2016 I8, didn't come with this key, it's optional, correct?
Just got a 2016 I8 and it was missing the charging cord, but making sure this key wasn't supposed to come with it? |

No key for the U.S. market, not even for the 2019 cars (I have one). The press release that came out end of last year announcing the 2019 coupe and roadster indicated the display key would be standard, but apparantly that only applied to the European market.

Ok, great, good to know. I was thinking they forgot to give me the key. So, if I find one used and buy it, it WILL WORK though.
Now, does the key do the same thing that the iphone app does? If you didn't know, you can connect your car to your phone. |

The BMW Connected app actually has more functionality (e.g. ability to send destinations to the car, ability to show the current location of the car, sound horn, turn on lights, etc.). I've attached an image of the display key functions, which I got from the owners manual even though the key wasn't provided with my car.

The free app does more. But this is an instant, direct connection to the car. So it works immediately, and also when my car is in the garage (from my house) and had no 3G signal. So I can precondition my i8 in the garage with the DisplayKey, but the app never works. |

My garage only has spotty 3g coverage but no keyfob range. So the app can precond 9 out of 10 times. Can you try what range you get from that key? is it the same range as the normal key? |

For anyone interested I just called my local dealer and was told that for my 2015 I would just have to stop in and show proof of ownership and the key would be $925 and arrive in 2-3 days.

It works from pretty far depending on obstructions and interference. From anywhere in my house into my separate brick garage is fine. |

Possible for BMW i3
Hey all, this keyfob looks like a fun accessory to have, I definitely want it.
Any chance to make work on the i3. The i3 and i8 have similar underlying system, not mention same old key. Any opinions? Last edited by therab; 09-28-2018 at 12:47 PM.. Reason: typo |

I have never heard of it working on an i3. Seriously doubt it will.

DisplayKey battery life
Has anyone got any official BMW info on the expected battery life of the DisplayKey?
Originally, mine was lasting over 2 months with light usage. Now it can go flat in 2 weeks even left unused. I'm looking for stated specifications or something similar from BMW, that I can use to make a warranty claim. |
