I do not understand the point of charging

Had this charged fully at BMW before I picked it up and by the time I was home 40 minutes later, about 16 miles. The charge was at 1 mile and I drove home the whole time in comfort mode not sport. So whats the point of a full charge if it only lasts a half hour drive.

You didn't know beforehand that the electric range is only 15?

The point is to supplement, or in theory you could daily it to work depending on your commute. Charging it up + e-drive or comfort is going to net you great efficiency, while also having the perk of throwing it in sport and having a ton of fun.

Exactly. I do one way of my commute at outlet cost rather than pump cost, and I do the second leg for free (recharge at work).

Buddenfan - not sure if you noticed: if you drove 16 miles in Comfort and the battery was empty at the end, your engine hardly ran during the entire drive. Your fuel consumption was next to nothing. Free ride home courtesy of your friendly BMW dealership ...

If you have to ask, then you probably don't get it...

Having eDrive in the i8 is like having a sports car that's also an electric city car. The electric range is just enough to get short trips done (to the mall, grocery store, post office, etc.) without needing to use any gas. I charge at home every night and it allows me to go around doing my daily errands without the need for a drop of gas.

Exactly I do the same thing almost at 550 miles and still have 1/4 tank of gas left.
