Is this a bad PPF job or just wait....

Kicking myself for going through the dealer for this but got the car back yesterday. When I got it home, I noticed these bubbles/blemishes. Dealer said that they are normal and should wait a few days to see if they go away. If not, they will fix. The bubbles look too big to just go away on their own.

I've never received any of the PPF vehicles I've owned with bubbles. Sure, you can wait a few days to make them happy, but get ready to take it back. The second pic appears to be just bad install. I will let other chime in...

Looks terrible. Any chance you can get your money back and just bring somewhere of your own choosing? Probably a long shot. How's the rest of it? Edges, corners, etc?

The rest looks pretty good. They didn't wrap the edges but I have heard mixed things about that in any event. They won't give my money back. Already asked.

maybe give it a few days like the dealer said then if its not done to your spec, def take it back and tell them to redo it. PPF is not cheap so def dont just settle. Follow up. Keep us posted

Wrapping edges when done right is awesome, but I would never expect a dealership to do that. I just meant that the PPF goes up close to the edges, no big gaps, etc. That's good to hear if there aren't any other issues. Just give them a chance to fix it then if you are satisfied with the rest of the job.

Question, did the dealer actually do the PPF or did they send the vehicle to someone oustide the dealer? I ask bc when I had hail damage on my SRT, the repair shop, "sub-contracted" with a PDR repair shop and a separate PPF shop to re-do the hood. The repair shop per se did not have the talent to do both.

Back in the day, you'd just touch them with the end of a razor blade and let the air out. You'd never know there was a tiny cut in the film. If you bring it back, and it gets returned to you in a half hour, that's probably what they did. Also back in the day, films did breathe some, and if the car was left in the sun the bubbles often did indeed go away on their own. It's worth a try.

I'm not familiar w/ today's films. I would agree to let it go a bit but also be somewhat ready to go back in.

Technically it was contracted out. I bought from a penske dealership (2 out of 4 Bmw dealerships in the area are Penske) and they have their own detail shop that services all the Penske dealerships whether it is a Honda, Toyota, BMW etc. If they have to reapply the film, then they will also need to reapply the ceramic coating and I need the third row on Tuesday for 3 weeks while my elderly parents are visiting. I can see waiting on the bubbles but not the other area where it looks like something is stuck under the PPF.

They took it back right away. Picked up it up from my house and delivered a loaner. Based off of the MY BMW app, looks like they took it to an actual 3rd party to fix it. It's not a shop I am familiar with but got great google/yelp reviews for whatever thats worth.

The vast majority of dealers use 3rd party shops for PPF and real ceramic coating and then add their markup to the price.

glad they took it back. the first pic bubbles may not come out. the second pic bubbles likely will over time as the slip solution dries. common to see some hazy or small bubbles. as mentioned. they will probably use a syringe 💉 to remove the air if needed. ppf breathes so some moisture caught in between will go away

Those bubbles are too big and will dry leaving air gap. If it doesn’t bother you then leave it. You can also insert a small needle , suck out moisture and press it down. Might be ok if you do it soon

Got the car back a week ago after they re-did the hood and the fender. It looks much better. there was one or two much smaller bubbles left that they pointed out when they delivered the car and said they would disappear and if they didn't, they would take back again. The bubbles were gone in a day. At the end of the day, I learned my lesson. I will never let the dealer do it again since I think I could have gotten a better job and would have taken less time. At least (this time), they made it right.

By the way, what brand of PPF was sold to you? If it is a well known brand you should be given a warranty.
