i3 lease protection question after accident

So p.o.'d

Got my passenger side door ran into by a car reversing to get out of parking space - while I was stopped behind him waiting to get out of parking lot. 18 y old driver, what can I say.

ANyways, damage looks to be a couple small dents in the door - small and can be missed if not looked at the right reflection but can be definitely felt. Small dent on the bottom corner of the back door. Havent gone to repair shop for estimate yet.

I have the lease protection (5000$) -will that be covered under the protection plan? I'm asking trying to figure out to go thru insurance/raise my rates or just let the lease protection cover it and be done with it- got 1 year left to go on lease. Thoughts?

should be fine, i had the same $5k coverage. i turned in my old 640gc with bumper ding and large dings on 3 out of 4 doors. the windshield even had a large crack but didn't have to pay anything for the damage. just make sure the damage total is less than $5k. best $500 I spent imo.

Lease protection will not cover accident damage. If it looks like collision damage they won’t cover it, whether a car collided with it or a dumpster. I had someone swipe the car in the parking lot, left a 3 ft gouge, went through insurance as a hit and run, not my fault so rates didn’t go up but I paid my deductible.

Also to note that the $5000 coverage is for the whole car (windshield, tires, dents, etc). They assign a maximum value of $1000 repair for each body panel, so if a good PDR guy can fix it cheap, then that would be better than going through insurance, might cost a couple hundred dollars, if that is the case, then the lease protection will be adequate

File it on the other guy's insurance and leave yours out of it.

This. I would, however, just call my own insurance company and tell them what happened so that they will go after his insurance company to pay for the repairs.
