You're paying through power cost and in America these not many safe generating power plants.
It's bad news BMW have not installed sports seats, steering and suspension in 2015.

Kiwi is still at it. He drives 1 and 2 series cars and thinks the i3 should be a sporty BMW not an urban vehicle.
His comments on our unsafe electric generating plants is equally ignorant. He seems to know a lot about a country he's never visited by reading some unknown source material. He's clueless.

I'm sure if BMW introduces a cheaper electric sports car he will be pleased. It makes no sense to add these items on This car because of the limitations, I thought I read somewhere it doesn't even have a anti roll bar . It does what it was designed to do and does it well. But like the Japanese cars back in the day were built to be cheap and cheerful and sip gas, the new generation took those cars that where meant to be budget and eco friendly rides and turned them into road warriors. So anything is possible given the time and money. |

How about read up on your generating power plants and why they have power cuts. How many years does it take to shut down one of your nuclear power plants to be safe????? and why are they mostly built on earthquake fault lines. So you think I'm clueless, well I don't have my head in the sand like some. Does the hat fit? The i3 is a BMW not a Toyota so it should be able to be sporty if you want or you can drive it around like a bathtub with wheels.

It wouldn't take BMW much to improve the steering etc as an option they do on all other BMW's.

Given the nature of the vehicle, designed for running around the urban areas, adding things like roll-bars, and other things that may add weight or increase drag (wider tires, etc.) and therefore lower range or function just don't make a lot of sense. Maximizing range and function was critical part of the design. That function was focused on certain things, and max g's on turns was not one of them. At sane speeds seen in a typical urban area, the i3 is great, and since cities tend to have some nasty road surfaces, stiffer suspension would not be a great idea. The vehicle is tall for several reasons, so to keep the lean down, most people won't want to drive it super fast around curves. It can easily keep up with 98% of the vehicles out there, I don't find it a detriment. You don't use an 8-ounce hammer to drive railroad spikes...nor do you use a 16 pound sledge to do jewelry engraving...the i3 is a tool, changing it's character will change its functionality to, I think its detriment. Leave sporty to other models, like the i8.

It's not roll bars it's a few tiny little bits added. This is a BMW like I said and I don't believe BMW should be adding Toyota like driving cars.
Yes enjoy your i3 I'm pleased for you but please think BMW not Urban other wise a lot of other nice toys we really like and enjoy will be removed. Just look at California's crazy new sunroof laws.

As for your other points, for some one so well traveled -- and received in such high places -- you are abysmally ignorant. Less than 20% of U.S. electricity is generated by nuclear power plants. Four percent is generated by wind, 11% by water (think dams). Last time: the i3 is an urban vehicle. It is not a sports car. It's not going to have the fat wheels and Recaro seats you so desperately want to see it have as others drive it and you do not. I'm through dealing with your total ignorance. You seem to be incapable of getting out of your prejudices and your belief that the i3 is something that it was never intended to be. Wallow in your ignorance. As you travel the U.S. and inspect our nuclear power plants.

As I was told today when I picked up my 2014 i3 REX, the main differences between the '14 and '15 models are the standard inclusion of heated seats, XM satellite radio, and the DC rapid charge...none of which mine has. The dealer said he'd install XM for $460. I told him I'd hum along with the music in my head for awhile.

The wrong 3 things
Quote:
1/ Sports seats do not belong in this city car. 2/ The steering is already very highly geared, and is excellent for such a car. 3/ The suspension is already very firm for a city car, and I consider it is "just right". |

Kiwi pushes hard for an M-type model of the i3. He's been told over and over what the car really is, but he ignores it. So, JasH, your post is an excellent one.
Yesterday while driving on the 101 Freeway east I saw a Smart car that I am sure Kiwi would like. It had huge wheels in the back, and big fender flares to accommodate them. They stuck out at least 8-10 inches on each side. They looked absurd. I was driving and unfortunately could not get a picture. But if I had, and could post it here, I'm sure Kiwi would print make it his screen saver.

Personally, I think the REx is, at this time, easily the best EV on the market because of the extended range. Some may say, "It's not a REAL EV." I say, "Who gives a shit over a few gallons of gasoline a month (if that)." Besides, as soon as I saw an i3 on the lift in the dealership shop I was sold. The frame design, suspension, motor, ICE/generator, CFRP shell, all of it ... Fu***ng brilliant! A few years from now when the same battery volume and weight will yield 150+ miles then the REx will begin to be obsolete. But not this year and not next. With regards to BMW sales ... Ignoring Tesla and the i8 due to cost, they closed 2014 with 6% market share and are on track to exceed 10% for Q1 2015. The BMW i3 is #2 behind Nissan in affordable EV sales. The Volt was a disappointment and the Leaf sucks and has lost its exclusive hold on the affordable EV market. I'd say BMW is poised to be a solid power player.

Kiwi, I don't care how visits you make to MY country, the idea that you think you know more than me, or any other native born American is arrogantly presumptuous and downright fuc*ing retarded. Furthermore, you want 'sport seats' and 'sport handling' in an affordable electric car?
