Interesting....

Many can make a judgement on a car which I can see is camouflaged not only with typical BMW swirls. but plastic panels on the A-Pillar and on the body.

The finished car follows the same philosophy as the i8 (Vision Efficient Dynamics) by being ahead of it's time.
The concept at the IAA in September will show you what is underneath the camouflage.

I understand that the test mule doesn't represent the finished product...but the i3 mule doesn't very closely resemble the clay or whatever they are cutouts we first saw...

At least the i8 looks the part so to speak...I think that's why most haven't responded well to the i3 to this point...

Fortunately (looking at what you all drive) most of the negative commentators here probably wouldn't be in the target demographic for this car - the fact that there are people out there that like the way the Smart, the Yaris, the Fiesta, the Ka, the Fiat 500.. etc. etc. look should indicate a massive potential market? Plus the Audi A2 was a success in Europe from what I remember, and that was ugly a sin.

Personally I'm happy to wait (though keen to see) how this turns out, but.. people should at least wait to see it as a finished product, before declaring whether it not it has the right to be called a BMW.. kinda makes me think they may have only bought their cars for the badge.

This is nearly 4x more expensive though.

Yes but it's not like BMW don't recognise that, and for that reason they aren't expecting it to sell in the same volume. ..SCOTT26... oh so true, its MEGAcamo-city at the moment.

I would love one to go into town for short trips in all e-mode.. long touring trips, most likely not. Even as an American I love the Fiat 500 joinig our roads soon.

Looks great, and an interesting move for BMW. If this is successful then that makes a lot more room in their overall carbon footprint as a manufacturer for the cars that we really want to drive - like the M3/M5 (without the turbos (sadly) of course) ....

Scott, I have always admired and respected your input in this forum.

Thanks, and although many people do not think all BMW products are spot on, I think most of us would acknowledge that the company as a whole is doing a fantastic job.

We are all (well most of us) BMW fans at heart.

It would be good to have an E30 homage at some point with an ultra light weight M3 with less power but a whole lot less weight than the E92 M3 (as much as I love it) .....

Interesting. Definitely for people who want a "sustainable" vehicle. At least in the US, if people want such a vehicle they want it to be really cheap (e.g. Scion) and they don't much care what it looks like (as evidenced by Scions, Priuses, Leafs, etc...). Further, in the US, specifically California, the legislature pushed sustainable cars (Civic hybrids and Priuses) through carpool lane passes, which interestingly ran out.

The problem I see for BMW if they decide to release this car in the US (which they may not) is that the car will be too expensive and won't likely get a special pass to allure people. The pass was really the ticket for Toyota in California. The Prius is/was overly expensive, but you could get a tax credit and a carpool lane pass and people ate that up.

Further, for evidence of US wants, look at SmartCar. They opened a dealer up in Orange County, California because they figured all the liberals with money would want to snatch them up. Interestingly, there were no car pool passes left and nobody wanted to drive a SmartCar, so the dealer went out of business relatively quickly. Even the ultra liberals of Orange County don't want to drive these types of cars. It seems that only the economically challenged buy the small cheap cars, not for the sustainability, but for the cheapness.
