Why must "electric" cars be synonymous with "block of cheese"? Can't we get some sleek aero designs BMW (aka Tesla, Fisker, etc)? Why sooooo utilitarian?

If you're making a city car, it doesn't really need great aerodynamics which really only come to play with higher speeds; so, it comes down to packaging - can you get passengers in and out along with room for parcels typically associated with shopping. In this, a box is more efficient.
If you look at it from an engineering viewpoint, efficiency is beauty. This should be both efficient and roomy for its intended use...form after function. As to wheelbase, a shorter one means a smaller turning circle with less expensive steering/suspension components making maneuvering in what may be tight, busy, narrow city streets, and sneaking into smaller parking spaces easier and a shorter wheelbase isn't as big a deal at lower speeds of a typical city car. So, it all depends on how you perceive it - as an extended trip cruiser, it will probably not excel, but as a good car to shoot those small slots in city, commuting traffic, it should. It should meet 90% of my driving needs which isn't enough to make it my only car. That is, if my folding recumbent trike will fit in the back! It would make getting to the trailhead nice, especially since short trips are not great on the wear and tear for a typical gasoline powered vehicle, and nearly everything I generally need is within its range. |

BMW, please stick to making Ultimate Driving Machines you once used to. You know...U for Ultimate, not Useless, Unnecessasry, Unappealing and so on...

If they did a sub brand, no one will buy them. A lot of people buy a BMW for status. People like it to be known they drive a BMW even though they don't know much about cars. Take a couple friends who bought a 5 and a 7 recently. One did not know if it was a 528i or a 535i or a 550i or if it had RWD or AWD. The other called his the 700 series. And no, I am not kidding here.

I still don't see what the point of this car is? It certainly is not putting something that is not already in the market. The I8 and I3 are not even that light for how hyped up their carbon fiber technology has been.
I am serious-what is the point of making a whole new line and what is so special about these cars? Why not just implement carbon fiber light technologies in their regular cars to drop them by 350-400 pounds, continue making more efficient motors and someone could buy a normal 1 series instead of this thing. |

I am curious about how "green" the production of these "ECO" - Cars really are, and after all, the production of electricity still causes CO2 emissions / radioactive waste. Untill the Production of Electricity isnt 100% nuclear/coal/fossile fuel and emission free I will stick to combustion engines. |

Lots of ill informed comment on here? Wait till its launched. Give it 15 years and most people will have to drive one! 0-60 in 7 secs not bad for a city car. I have a 1M and X3 and will buy one for city use. Free parking and low running costs. Also carbon fibre body doesn't dent if it gets a parking knock. When you think how much of the worlds population lives in big city's you can see why BMW has invested 1bn euros. They have 100000 people interested already!

Someone of the designers should have been fired. This is just crap, like all others from BMW the last time.
BMW, start making cars like Mercedes does. We want cars like SLS - Z8, SLC - Z6?, CLA - 2GC, 8 series Coupe/GC, Concept CS, "green" 6 cyl engines, more LED lights (E90 LCI vs F30) ++ fuck this shit...

When comes i3 GC, X-i3, i3 Coupe, i3M and fastest model Mi3 ? ... . I just hope that somewhere there behind this "driving pleasure"(what ever they call) somebody old school BMW engineer writing new history and plan to made once again car like e46 CSL(MT option) if necessary just put electric motor(not heavy one) on it and we got co2 level under 100g/km and price tag somewhere near 1M price.

Sure look at tesla, but why is the Prius and the volt so damn awkward? Why can't these cars look sleek and sexy? Why do they scream, "hey, I don't care one bit about what I drive looks like or automotive design, I get 50 MPG!!"

Thank you. The majority in forums unfortunately behaves like 13 years old kids on schoolyard spouting off their gut feeling ... i.e. only accepting super sports car designs as acceptable... Yes - the design is discussible - but the expetation to see a Tesla Roadster like setup is ... ridiculous. |
