Pretty cool video, wish there was more of the i8 actually driving, though. Thanks for posting!

Appreciate you posting the vid, thanks @JET500.

Having said that, it was a very poor review. It was almost an 'idiot's guide' to the i8, but even then it wasn't factually correct...

"gullwing doors"?!? - they're 'dihedral doors'! (Gullwing doors are like those on the Mercedez SLS etc.) (Wiki: "Gull-wing door (German: Flügeltüren) is an automotive industry term describing car doors that are hinged at the roof rather than the side"

Why say "range anxiety though is something to be considered..." and then completely refute his own comment by then saying it's a hybrid with a petrol engine as well. He's just dramatising the whole thing TBH, and it causes scaremongering, and poorly educates those that half take an interest in such things. A la Jeremy Clarkson really!

"0-60 in 4.5 seconds"?!? 0-60mph is 4.2 seconds, so where on Earth did he got that info from?!? Maybe he's used the 0-62mph (0-100km/h) time of 4.4 seconds instead and rounded it up?!? Either way, it's shoddy journalism.

And as for saying they want to show both sides... so he really expects people to consider the other method of transport does he?!?

Whatever, next...

We done some media and VIP customer nights in China with the i8 having started in Shanghai last week and then made our way to Beijing for the autoshow. The best part is China is taking electrification seriously in Shanghai and Beijing you were never near a location that did not have a charging point.

We will be getting to the press launch soon. They knew they could get some extra oomph or numbers out of the car so it was not at its pinnacle.
These cars are pre-production prototypes.

The i8 looks the part in Shanghai.

QUESTION- Im a noob on the technical info on the i8 but.. can the i8 run in just petrol mode only? Like if I never charged the car electrically and only added fuel to it then it would just work in petrol mode yes? Or would i have to do both for petrol mode meaning charging and fueling?

While the petrol engine is running, it's charging the batteries. I'm not too advanced on it either but I don't think it runs solely on it's petrol engine no. Could be wrong.

You can run the car by just filling it up with gas. The electric motor has its own alternator, and it will stay charged. Not sure at what rate it is charged, or if the charge is just maintained or increases or decreases, or what, but this is what I've been told.

But why would you even want to, wouldnt it be drastically slower without the electric motor?

Yeah this guy was full of misinformation... it's a TwinPower Turbo (single twin-scroll turbo) 3-cyl engine

No idea why anyone would want to; I was just responding to the question

Ideally for best performance and efficiency, keep the car charged when it's parked and drive it as it was intended.

I wonder how tall a person can fit in the car comfortably (headroom).

Is it only me who thinks i8's paint looks really dull?
All i8's I've seen, always look dull in paint quality.
It doesn't have that sharp lines or paint polish quality from other cars..
It looks like someone tried a dip the entire car and messed up.
My 98 Jetta looks cleaner... seriously.
