The BMW i8 made its world public debut recently at the 2013 Frankfurt auto show [see gallery] and it's currently making its second [correction: third] auto show appearance at the 2013 Dubai auto show.

Those attending the LA Auto Show which begins in less than 2 weeks will also get to see the production BMW i8 in person at its North American debut. And if you can't make it, rest assured we'll bring you plenty of coverage from the show.

Catch our BMW i8 news and updates at: http://www.bimmerpost.com/i8/

For now, check out the Crystal White i8 on display in Dubai.

Can't be the 2nd appearance

This can't be the second auto show appearance... There was one on display at the Johannesburg International Motor Show last month. My brother was trained on the vehicle and was the "go-to" guy for the i8.

Who is the designer who thinks it's a good idea to keep putting turbine or swirly looking wheels on electric/hybrid cars? Looks awful

Ummm BMW Motorsport????
They started putting them on the M3 race cars for endurance races 2-3 years ago.

What Statement This Would Be If They Could Add A Touch Of M!

This car is crying for an M treatment! You have made the enviro statement BMW, now, written off a lot of the development cost and secured an alternative energy R&D partner; come bring it all home and find a way to make this thing into the car it wants to be.

The wheel designs for the BMW i3 and BMW i8 follow the same function as other key points of the BMWi brand.
The wheels for example , each individual design has been developed in the wind tunnel to reduce drag and resistance and these designs provide aerodynamic assistance to the car.

After the IAA the i8 has had numerous appearances both for public and private viewing even special targeted events for customers.
Next week the car makes its public premieres in Los Angeles and Tokyo.

Media drives will commence in early 2014.

No, I get that but I am speaking of why the designer even thought it was a good look despite it's functional design. Obviously the i3 and i8 will be coming with other wheel designs that are not "swirly" or "turbine" looking so they could have easily left out these designs in favor of the other wheels. Maybe I'm getting old...

This car is outstanding whichever way you see it. It really is (and looks) ahead of it's time. I only hope it does well sales-wise, otherwise there is nothing like it in the market.

Now I wonder if BMW go one step further in the (near) future and offer a fully electric version of the car. If they manage to maintain a similar engine output and weight in check (let's say 1600kg with the batteries and everything), a range of about 400km and still space for four passengers then that would probably be the most advance electric car ever.

Having said that I also hope it lents tech and know-how to the halo-supercar that we all want and waiting for.

I like the Plutonic Blue... Sexy to look at but without all the complications of an intimate relationship!

Seriously, I can see this being sold out for years. The executive commuter will favor this over a 911 because the i8 is cooler (because it's new) and doesn't have a lot of attitude but is still uniquely designed and (hopefully) fun to drive.

The wheels on the white one are terrible. The wheels on the blue one are... ok, I can live with them but ultimately "what the heck" I will put something more fit for that car.
Now, let's hope that they will put out a model with a single small battery under the hood and a nice engine.

Actually for me, the wheels on the Protonic Blue i8 are the best looking out of the 3 designs I've seen so far.
