BMW i8 Roadster Wins North American Concept Car of the Year Award for Best Production Preview Vehicle.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – July 2, 2013…
The BMW i8 Roadster won the North American Concept Car of the year Award in 2012 and it has been crowned again this year, now as the Best Production Preview Vehicle. The Production Preview category recognizes those vehicles based on a model that has already been announced or planned for production.

The awards are given to the best Production Preview Vehicle, Concept Car, Concept Truck/SUV, Specialty Concept, and Most Significant Concept Vehicle of each auto show season. To be eligible for the awards, a concept vehicle must make its North American debut during the current model year’s auto show season.

More than two dozen Professional Automotive Journalists from throughout North America serve as volunteer jurors for all categories of the awards. By extending the review to the whole package – design, style, materials, technology, market viability and market responsiveness – and concentrating the focus on the market that the jurors know best, the North American Concept Vehicle of the Year Awards provide truly valuable feedback to help shape the future of the automotive industry.

Detailed information for the BMW i8 Roadster is available at http://bmwi.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=669759

I wouldn't change anything at the time of production. Best BMW design study since ...507?

Actually the i8 Spider illustrates the production look of the actual i8 which will be on sale next year. This concept car is 90% production car including the interior which bar the concept detailing is exact.

I think the car looks great - besides the wheels and the rear end... Looks like something out of star wars. I do not understand why most manufacturers make their electric vehicles look like spaceships from 80's scifi films.

I like the i8 in coupe version. I hope it is priced 70-80K range and not some outrageous amount. I also hope that BMW does bring it pretty much in concept form without dulling it down.

Last but not least BMW PLEASE FIX THE CRAPPY ELECTRIC STEERING in your newer generation cars. It is a big turn off.

Garage List
Rims

The rims look VERY much like the Huff's from the MKV GTI.

The i8 looks good and practical for longer trips. This will make a choice between the Tesla S and i8 very hard. Tesla does have the 2 additional rear seats. I'm sure BMW can't price the i8 too far off from Tesla.

Hopefully the i8 doesn't use the same battery suppliers as the Boeing 787.
