Going to try the fusebox tap today or tomorrow.
Anyone tried that here? To those who had their delaers install...wow...you guys are lucky. I can't imagine any of the dealers i've been to in NY state doing that. |

I think it's cleaner to do the mirror tap. Short wire, etc.

Thanks, for the link. I just found that video late last night too. Will definitely help me out. I'm going to add my BlackVue camera today as well too hopefully.
I'm just more comfortable doing the fuse tap, as I've never done the mirror tap, I'm sure it's not that hard, perhaps even easier than the fuse tap! |

Yes, I do feel safer tapping power off the fuse.
Wow, getting to it is going to be another deal. Might need to do some yoga sessions before I try! |

Finally installed my RD today. Used the fuse tap through the fuse box. I was procrastinating as I thought accessing that fuse box was going to be a big pain in the ass. It wasn't that hard at all and was pretty fast.
I used the posted video which helped a lot. I only had to undo one screw, not two, to get to the fuse box...the screw closest to the passenger door which is just holding the panel. Then another torx to loosen a metal nut to attach the ground. Took maybe 30 minutes tops. Now I just have to figure out a better way to power my BlackVue... |

I followed the idea on the YouTube video for tucking the wire in the cracks and behind the windshield trim running down to the area where the fuse box is located under the glove box. It worked fine and was well hidden. Then instead of tapping a fuse, I just ran the wire ( with the V1 supplied inline fuse) about 12 inches farther and tapped into the wire connected to the 12 volt power outlet located under the dash to the left of the glove box. That outlet is intended for an accessory power connection as designed from BMW. Worked great. The outlet stays powered for a period of time after you exit the vehicle then shuts off on its own.
