Anybody know how to get to the 12V battery

I want to run some voltage checks? Any idea how to get to the 12v battery?

Just a related question. When you plug in to charge the main batteries, does the 12V get topped up too?

Anyone know please?

This section of the Owner's Manual leads me to believe it does:

Discharged high-voltage and vehicle battery

General information

In addition to the high-voltage battery, the vehicle has a 12 volt vehicle battery, which is required for operation of the onboard electronics.

With a discharged vehicle battery, no operation of the vehicle is possible.

Place vehicle in service

To place the vehicle in service, charge as usual.

If there is no possibility of charging on site, contact the service center.

Charging vehicle with a discharged vehicle battery

1. Unlock the vehicle, if needed, using the integrated key, refer to page 38.
2. Secure the vehicle against rolling.
3. Connect either a Level 1 or Level 2 charging cable to the household socket or the port on the charging station.
4. Attach charging cable corresponding to the charging socket connection.

Charging is started. The charging status is not displayed. Do not open vehicle during this time.

After several minutes, the vehicle is slightly charged. The onboard electronics are ready again. It is again possible to open the vehicle.

The charging status as well as the charging state of the high-voltage battery can be displayed again.

If the vehicle battery cannot be charged, contact the service center.

You have to open the hood. This requires caution and expertise. It is a two-person job with a risk of damage if not done properly. There are some YouTube videos that show it. Here is one:

Mine didnīt last winter. The car stood plugged in from november til april.
The main battery was full but the first thing that happened when I rolled out of the garage was a message that the battery (12V) wasnīt properly charged.

I read somewhere that the 12 volt battery only charges when the car is on?

Did you have trouble getting into the car and starting her up, 'cos the 12v battery is needed to run the locks and controls/displays etc? Assuming you got in and started ok, wonder if the 12v battery is just on its last legs and need a replacement?

The manual states you shouldn't charge the 12v battery using normal methods (booster cables for example as it charges from the high-voltage battery).

I had mine replaced when the sat nav kept re-booting, seems to have done the trick.

If leaving the car for months plugged into a type 2 charger, I'd be tempted to at least lock/unlock it occasionally or run the pre-conditioner, maybe this will spur it into topping up the the 12v battery as well !
