Launch Control 0-60 Time

I know some folks were asking how my tune has been treating me, so I finally did one proper LC run. According to BMW M Laptimer app, I did 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds. My thoughts and notes:

This is on ACN 91 gas, half tank. For those that don't know, ACN stands for Arizona California Nevada. It's basically shit 91 octane. Not only do we not get 93, but the 91 is extra shitty.

I have 9.5 wrapped in 245 up front and 10.5 wrapped in 275 in the rear. PSI was about 32-34 up front, 38 in the rear. The wheels are actually a few pounds heavier than stock due to the width increase.

Outside temperature was about 73 F. I did the run after about 25 minutes of fairly aggressive canyon driving, no cool down.

LC in my opinion sucks. It hardly adds any oomph to the launch, and the shifts are stupid hard. I honestly think you lose a couple tenths from the 1-2 shift. Non LC is much smoother and quicker. I'd like to try again with a brake boost launch instead.

So the number may not seem great, but my prior best LC was about 4.4 or 4.5 (can't recall). I attribute it mostly to the gas quality. That said, given the comparison to my own car, it's quite an improvement. I also can't comment on how accurate the app is, just the delta (previous LC was more or less in the same location).

Anyways, just thought I'd share. I'm not gonna get hung up over numbers - at the end of the day I still love driving it and receiving comments about it. And no, it doesn't need a V8.

So much depends on quality of surface too. Somehow only Porsche seems to be able to churn our consistent 0-60 results on any surface.

Because they really know what they're doing. An old racing proverb goes: "Porsche HP count double" - because they've always outdriven much more powerful cars.

Nice job Skinrock. The bmw app is probably not using the 1-foot rollout method which is about 3-4 tenths quicker so on an equivalent basis you are in the high 3's according to how all the auto reviewers do it.

Any issues since the tune? Have you taken the car into bmw for any service with the tune in?

I must say, this i8 section is sooo mellow compared to the old days of E90 and F80 catfight squabbling over 0-60 and 1/4 miles times.

Does the BMW Laptimer still need the BMW specific OBD dongle?

Yea, I would assume not. It seems to be rather picky - it has to be a run from a dead stop.

Haven't taken it in - needs an oil change though

Heh...trust me, I remember the E90 days.

I have done 3.8sc and the app is very accurate, in fact the same as the Vbox

Yea, readily available 93 must be nice

I filled up with 100 again, just for fun. Wasn't able to use the app, but I have a Blackvue which records speed (pretty sure it's GPS based). The data sampling speed isn't great, but I have a clip of passing 2 cars and did 45-80 in about 3.5 seconds.

Readily available 98 octane here! Really shocked at the poor fuel quality over the pond.

Wish I could find high octane fuel in Texas. We have 93, but nothing else. At least, nothing easily located.

Octane or RON? 105 RON is 98 octane I believe.

Also, cars are lighter in Europe, i8 included. It's bull shit.

ALSO, our ridiculous crash regulations are ruining bumpers on super cars. Have you seen the awful bumper pads on the DB11? How about the truly awful ones (easily removable thankfully) on the Chiron?

Tried removing mine. Turns out they poke a hole in the bumper for a plastic clip
