Considering an I8

I have been lurking for awhile and decided I better join if I want my ?'s answered.

I am considering an I8 and there are some deals but I am thinking of waiting a few months to see if the dealers get desperate like they did last year.

I am finding new 2015's still on the lot and since the 2018's are not that far off, waiting may be to my advantage.

The depreciation is about $1k a month (!).

Used 2014's are less then $100k.

I am also considering the NSX, but I don't expect any input on that auto from here.

If you have any it would be appreciated.

They both are neat cars for sure.

Currently I have a CTS-V (1st gen) and a C5 Corvette Z06 which I am selling.

Used 2014 is your best bet, no Comfort Access and Display Key. They have reduced production capacity and one hopes that it will stabilize the price. Leasing has become more expensive too now.

Almost identically in the same boat as you tbh - considering between 2 similar and 1 totally different vehicles at the moment:

- i8
- NSX
- AMG GTS

Beverly Hills BMW has 3 red ones last time I checked, however I'm not a fan of the red/black colorway.

But I wonder if they'd give an amazing lease deal

i8 and GTS are very different cars. the i8 is a daily driver, the GTS is a track car. i don't know much about the NSX.

GTS a track car?

I would have thought more of a very quick GT car.

The GTR is a different animal altogether.

FYI - the 2016 i8 lease blitz that happened last year was the perfect storm. Huge rebates, unusually high lease residual values and saturated inventory is the reason why. BMW learned their lesson on MY17 i8 models and going forward as they are not building nearly as much as they did for 2015-2016.

I am hoping that BMW comes out with it again for 2017 if the rumors are true that the 2018 will debut the i8S with more performance

Something perhaps towards the end of the year? Or once the rumored i8s is revealed?

Deals have been terrible. They're m6 type payments- with far less performance/interior feel but at least frozen black is an option now? There is one in crevier bmw that may make the 160k sticker worth it.

Q4 is going to be the best bet.

Sold Mr. Vette.

Shopping, but I may wait till end of year or even next year.

NSX is top of the list.

I hate car sales persons.

Only thing worse is real estate agents.

I really like the look of the nsx and have test drive scheduled. That being said, it does not seem to be selling. If I like it, might pick one up used after my I8 lease is up.

If it was priced at like $150k loaded I think it would sell much better. It's 200k loaded

Not that I'm aware of.

Was thinking more along the lines of used cars going into inventory for sale.

The most I've been able to get off is 8k on a 155K frozen black i8...they're being tough right now.

"Everything is speculation" (when I mention the roadster/refresh in 2018 etc) is what they're giving me.

So...looks like they'll be willing to deal perhaps Labor Day ish/end of the year once they sit on a bunch of i8s again. At which I told them that "once you're willing to discount at least 20, give me a call"

Is there any difference between 2014 and 2016 MY other than comfort access and smart key? Any reliability or other issues that were worked out in later models?

Not all automotive sales people are bad. Majority are but if you happen to find the right one who is a car enthusiast and level headed, you would be happy. Problem is that they are few and far in-between.

As for real estate agents...

135 sales price (20k discounted off from 155) will run you ATM approximately 1450 on 36 mo/10k miles a year. That same deal last year was 1299.

Difference being the residuals/MF are terrible in comparison.

So we just need to have patience. They will discount them to the mid 120s eventually. But they won't be those 1k-1200 a month payments we saw last year unless the residuals/MF change to what they were (or close to it) last year

Expect (realistically so no ones disappointed) around 1300ish if they get down to the 120s

I think I have settled on the NSX.

Used I8's are going for less then $100k and I figure they will be $50k by 2020 when the warranty expires.

My plan is to purchase late this year or next year as I am in no hurry.

Watching that video of opening the I8 hood was a definite turn off.
