Getting my i8 at the end of this week.
Can anyone tell me what Federal or CA tax rebates the car qualifies for?

Tax affects in CA

Unfortunately, last time I checked there is nothing from CA. The i8 was never fully tested re their existing EV program (emissions basis), therefore not covered. That may have changed more recently. Your dealer should have a communications document detailing all of this, with state contact details.
The federal incentive is a tax credit. It's about $3750 and again is a credit, not a rebate.

The IRS Tax Credit for 2014 was $3493. Its formula driven based electric motor output, resulting in the i8 getting a lower tax credit than the i3, Tesla, etc that receive the full $7500.

In Texas, we receive a $2500 EV Incentive payment from the state.

If you buy you get the Federal rebate. If you lease, the lessor gets the rebate. BMW FS passes the rebate on so that it effectively lowers the acquisition cost.

I was under the impression that was only to replace a really old car?

Nothing mentioned in this article about the vehicle being replaced, just the car being acquired.

The Texas EV credit is new and was enacted in June, 2014. It is a roughly $6B fund that covers electric, propane and CNG based vehicles.
