I mean it sounds good, looks cool and is uber chic to be in a electric super car but doesn't this really defeat the purpose.

Unless you are producing a high volume electric/efficient car, there is never going to be a net savings of energy to the world. Silliness but good marketing

Man this car looks great. They need to make it without any delay and keep it faster then current M cars, give it same fantastic steering feel, driving dynamics and last but not least a nice exhaust note from that 3 cylinder twin turbo. Also, keep it for under $100K and I think this car will be a hit.

Also, 0-60mph figures are nice but I want to see the 1/4th mile time as they are more true measure of how quick this car will be.

I can foresee in the future when hybrids like these will begin to populate the roads. Love the direction BMW is going, and hopefully the automotive industry as a whole continues to follow suit.

Judging by BMW's habit of sticking very close to its concept versions for the eventual production model, likely not much.

My tip is that they skip the glass panels from door handles and down (both cars), the rear side spoilers on the i8 and the glass roof on the i3. The keep the rest more or less as it is.
However the interior including seats and instrument panel will undergo heavier changes.

Not sure about the US but in Canada, a large part of the insurance premiums is the percentage of accidents that happen for a particular year/model. (For example, where I am a 2008 335i is cheaper to insure than a 2006 325i). Likewise, for me to insure a 2006 Maserati Cambiocorsa GT is cheaper again than a 2006 325i. Simply because they don't get smashed up very often. Actually the cheapest cars to insure here are the 'seasonal' cars (i.e. convertibles like the Z4M Roadster and Boxster). Eventually insurance reaches a point where they look at the price of the vehicle, cost of repair, and usually with these high-end cars with a medium impact would instead just write the vehicle off.

According to Green Car reports who spoke to Rich Steinberg, manager of electric vehicle sales and strategy for BMW at the LA auto show a couple days ago, the production i3 will be "95% the same as the concept shown." and then when questioned about how close the production i8 will be to this dramatic concept, Steinberg said it would be very close, the deep sculpting and dramatic glass included.

i really love this design, BUT, has anyone seen this?

http://www.tuvie.com/audi-a9-concept...sedan-segment/

this was created in 2010. am not sure whether if its an official design, but by the looks of the boards, it seems like an artist/student made this

I saw it a couple of years ago. From what I remember this rendering was never presented by Audi officials or through Audi web sites. So it is just an art piece, however cleverly designed

I know that car insurance for a sports car is more expensive. But HOW much more expensive?

I don't get it. If I can afford a $100,000+ car I could care less about the price of a gallon of gas. If this car was intended for "green minded" rich guys, they would be selling how many, 1 or 2 cars per State per month? BMW will be losing. Even now, the guys trying to make electric cars such as Fisker Karma et al are revising their sales figures.
