Woodcliff Lake, N.J. – August 8, 2014… In celebration of the US arrival of the BMW i8, the world’s most innovative sports car, a one-of-a-kind 2014 BMW i8 Concours d’Elegance Edition will be auctioned during the weekend of the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, ahead of the official fall sale date. The i8 Concours d’Elegance Edition will be distinguished by a unique paint scheme and interior treatment as well as other features that will make it unlike any other BMW i8 in the world. The BMW i8 Concours d’Elegance Edition will be sold by Gooding & Company, the official auction house of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, during the annual Pebble Beach Auctions at Pebble Beach on Saturday, August 16. Proceeds of the sale will go to the Pebble Beach Company Foundation and the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The 2014 BMW i8 Concours d’Elegance Edition will feature BMW Individual Frozen Grey Metallic exterior paint. The unique interior will boast Dalbergia Brown leather upholstery, which is tanned using dye derived from plant extracts. The upholstery is accented with stitching in BMW i Blue. The Pure Impulse Tera World interior includes other trim accents in BMW i Blue, including the seat belts, as well as having “BMW i8” embossed into the front headrests. A number of US firsts will be included with this special edition including laser headlights, pending government approval, a BMW i8 Display key as well as the first BMW Charging Station, professional edition. Other touches will further mark this BMW i8 as truly one-of-a-kind. There are three different interiors in that collection of photos.
I wonder which is "correct". (not that it matters, I won't be bidding)

The correct one is with the brown leather, blue stitching, and i8 lettering in the headrests. Note also these photos show a standard shifter, whereas the Pure Impulse shifter is ceramic, but I am not sure if this actual car (which already deviates slightly with brown instead of grey leather for US Pure Impulse package) will have a ceramic shifter or not. |

The only pictures that are not of this exact car are the one with the Louis Vuitton bags and the last shot. The first two interior shots just look slightly different because they're highly edited.
What an incredibly good-looking car though. I'd love to see this color combo in person. |

Since the physical car crosses the block it must be assumed it is already made.
Probably air shipped to the US. Ferrari offer this service , effectively next day to their NJ facility for around $15,000. Sometimes the rate was discounted to below $10,000 Maybe something BMW should offer ? |

1) Look at the Close-up of the headrest. Full brown leather.
2) Look at the other three interior shots showing brown leather. The Headrest is two-toned. 3) Look at the stock photo of the dash, all light colored leather. Three interiors. Quality Assurance is Job Three.

See it now - good catch.
These are likely photoshop jobs of standard photos; my previous comment still stands. The light brown interior (1)(2) is correct. The grey one (3) is quite obviously accidentally included. While I do not know which is the correct headrest, I would be pretty confident guessing it is (2) with the cloth/leather headrest. |

Some people just don't seem to get the whole purpose of the I-series of cars...they are only viable for people with an open mind, and the ability to accept their design goals. Otherwise, they are pieces of useless junk! Everything in a car design is a compromise based on the end goals. The i8's goal is not to be the fastest, badest, vehicle out there, but to be a viable, economical (at least in the running, not in the buying!), green vehicle that is fun to drive, and not a big hit on the environment while doing it. It is not designed as a track car, but as something you can drive every day and be happy with it. If your goal is to beat everyone in a drag race, find another vehicle! The i8 in that form would be less stable, heavier, far less efficient, cost more, and not be as nice of an every day (capable) car, which was one of the design goals.

The i8 looks cool but with a 128hp e-motor and a turbo 3 cylinder......just not very interesting to most of the folks on here that own bmw's for what they are and what they are known for. IMO of course. 130k for a futuristic take on aero and tech without the nuts the back it up is silly if you ask me

BMW would never use it but a great slogan for the i8 would be "If you think it needs more power, you've missed the point...buy something else."
More complaining about what it isn't rather than appreciating what it is. A carbon fiber sports car with the lowest center of gravity of any BMW, lighter than a M235i, faster overtaking than a 911, 0-60 in 3.8 (according to Road and Track), for less than a similarity equipped M6 GC and the most futuristic body work of any production car. Wait for BMW to make a new M1 with the power you want for $300k+. Then you can complain about the price. Last edited by Carac; 08-10-2014 at 12:30 PM.. |

The same car with a lot more power would be a very different animal. It would also need wider wheel arches for much wider wheels.
Most importantly though, it would need completely different steering, as it offers no real feedback. Seriously, if you want a car like that, don't buy any BMW. There are many much faster, more raw, cars that offer greater visceral thrills. That however was not the design brief of the i8, and I am glad about that. I also suspect most who complain about the i8 have never driven one. |
