Why is CarPlay (including phone calls) so low volume?
My CarPlay seems super low volume. I am sure it was not like that the first few days I had the car but is now. Phone calls over CarPlay are insanely quiet even at max volume. Any tips for fixing this? I have removed and re-added the phone (iPhone 15 Pro Max) to CarPlay. I am running latest iOS Public Beta (so maybe related there, but I do not think so). XM Radio is right at the volume levels I would expect.

And for just music streaming I have to be over 50% to have it even audible for CarPlay, but for XM it is maybe at 15-20% for equivalent volume output.

This is a problem related to BMW lowering the volume in certain situations.
Example; volume is normal until vehicle is put in reverse. In reverse the volume is lowered to increase focus. Once the car is put in drive and moves forward for a few second the volume should return to normal, but it doesn't. You will find that it resumes normal volume randomly when the car is restarted. Super frustrating, especially when you get in the car again and it decides to go back to normal volume and it blasts you with sound. |

Occasionally I have been able to fix this when playing music by switching from playing through CarPlay to playing through the phone speakers, increase the volume and switch back to CarPlay. On another occasion, I received a phone call and after the call it fixed itself when music resumed playing. I don’t know what is causing it, initially though it was iOS related since I am using a developer beta version of iOS.

Headunit restart. Sometimes my audio gets msssws up from my phone. Music and calls have to be turned up super loud to be normal listening volume. Switching back to FM radio for example (a car sound source) would come back and play super loud because volume was up so high to be able to hear CarPlay sound output

Just need to restart idrive. Push down volume knob on center console until screen turns black. Keep holding until menu shows up. That’s a soft restart. Shouldn’t need to hard restart to fix this.

Seems to have started plaguing me after 8.5 idrive. Restarting system fixes. Also if you go to your CarPlay apps list you will notice icons missing images for phone based apps. Reset fixes that too but only until next time CarPlay is connected. I’ve given up caring because clearly it’s not me.

2024 BMW iX Apple CarPlay Low Volume
Hello there - I have this persisrent problem with Apple CarPlay volume drop - I have the latest iDrive and iOS software although everyday I have volume drop while using Apple CarPlay - I called BMW genius and Apple customer service without any resolution - Deleted and re-installed my iPhone 15 Pro Max to iDrive several times - Resetting the iDrive sometimes 4-5 times a day!!!! with no permanent fix to the problem. It works very well with everything else including XM radio - The problem is with Apple CarPlay only! I also disable sound check option on my iPhone! I paired different iPhone to the iDrive without any fixation of the problem - Does anybody know how to fix it? Appreciate any input/feedback.

Just a stupid question- does adjusting the volume on the physical phone make any difference?

No. The fix for me has been an iDrive reboot and only once a month or so.

Not exactly related but when sirius radio is playing and I get a text in Apple car play and then have it read, I can still hear the music, not as loud but it does mess things up when I try to respond to the text
On all my other cars including other BMWs and 1 or 2 times on the ix50 the radio is muted 100% while the text is read to me and I speak a response Anyone else have this issue? |

Has happened to me 3 times over the past year. The audio has also gone choppy twice. The solution in all cases was a drive mode reset - the car, not the phone.
While in drive (I've done this while driving) press and hold the center console volume scroller for what feels like about 40 seconds. The center screen will go blank as it boots and the HUD and instrument cluster will return to their default settings. Hope this helps. |

Same as above, just reset the console. Seems to be a software issue and I’ve found it to be more prevalent with CarPlay but Bluetooth I believe also has some challenges. They can’t seem to figure out their software…
