First Time Charging need help

I have the BMW wall box and when I plug the car in the light stays white. There is a blue light that’s steady on the wall box and the car and app recognizes that that it’s plugged into car. There is something on the app that says it’s “unlocked”. Am I doing something wrong?

In meantime I plugged in the charger that came with car but car is outdoors. Is this charger ok to be outside?

The portable EVSE is fine for use outside but be careful someone doesn't walk away with it.

Does the portable EVSE work and is the problem just with the mounted wall box?

The steady blue light suggests that the wallbox thinks it's not plugged in to the car. https://cdn.flow.page/images/e264c4a...f?m=1681152030

I thought the steady blue light on wall box means it’s ready.
The wall box does not charge but the portable does. I unplugged the wall box to use the portable.
When I use the wall box the car and app indicate it’s plugged in but no charging happens. I had schedules set up but I deleted all of them and I set it for immediate charging but still does not start. It says something about it being “unlocked”. Does it have to be locked to start charging?

Are u sure its not charging or just charging real slow. Check the amp setting on your BMW app or in the car, everytime I charge with AC at a new place I have to increase it from 6 amp to 48 to get the max charge

6amp is the default in the wallbox (according to the manual link above). If the wallbox is only pushing 6amp then the dip switched in the wallbox need to be adjusted to the correct setting for the circuit.

I've never had to readjust the setting in the vehicle. It's set to 48amp in the vehicle and every time I plug into a L2 EVSE, I get the max it's able to deliver up to 48amp.

Even it it was charging slowly it would say it’s charging. This is saying it’s plugged in when wall box is connected but not charging. When I plug in the portable it starts charging right away. Car is set to 48v

It sounds as though charging is not initiating as Pictor notes above. I have a Wallbox hardwired into my house and the charging port light (i5 in my case) and wallbox light both flash blue when charging is occurring.

Did the installer check that the authorization DIP switch was turned off? (Per below it’s set to “on” at the factory)

6 amp is also standard in the ix50. Every time I charge at a new place I have to change that setting manually. I tired setting the app and in the car to 48 or unchecking the box to no avail. At a new charger it starts at 6 and has to be manually changed.

True, I just thought I would mention to look at the amp anyway.

I just thought of this a little further. Pushing it to off says it allows free access. The default position lets you authorize through app. But that still does not work. So maybe this isn’t the problem. Did everyone have to change these DIP switches to get the all box to work?

The wallbox authorization is not supposed to be used in the US market yet. My installer set it up for free access per the instructions, so I don’t have to authorize through any other app.

That authorization app is not supposed to be available in the US market at this time - I’m not sure whether that would be the wallbox service app, or some other app, but it’s not the myBMW app.
