E Drive Max Speed

As a future i8 owner, I've got a question for you current owners. I believe the advertised top speed for eDrive is 75 mph. Does that seem to be accurate? Also, if one has selected eDrive, but then exceeds the top speed and the ICE kicks in, does it automatically switch back to eDrive when the speed reduces below the max or do you have to re-select it?

Yes, it is accurate...I hit 76 with a little momentum, but otherwise it's 75. Not sure about the second question...you can't exceed 75 in full eDrive mode, so the ICE won't kick in. Pushing the throttle further simply doesn't do anything.

Interesting. Is that to say that if one is cruising in eDrive at max speed and needs more speed to pass another car, you have to manually switch to normal or sport mode in order to go faster than 75?

Unless there is something I'm unaware of, yes. Once you hit 75 it's like it cuts out...pushing further doesn't do anything - at least not for me.

It does max out at 75 but if you floor the pedal the engine will kick in.

That makes sense, particularly if one needs a burst of added speed to avoid a hazardous situation. Once floored, is there much lag waiting for the engine to start and the turbos to spin up in order to deliver the added thrust?

Yes, there is significant lag, on the order of at least a second or two. When you put the pedal to the floor, if you are doing it to avoid a collision, it feels like an eternity.

Honestly, I'd never attempt an overtake etc in e-Drive. Anything risky, and I don't even do it in Comfort.

Always switch to Sport, and you will never have a problem - lots of power, instantly, and 4WD traction.

But yes, pressing the pedal past the slight stop will engage the combustion engine. But be aware the car has to start the engine, spin it up AND also switch the gear on the front motor to high gear.
