Fuel Cap release takes LONG!

Just had my first 100+ mile day today and had the REx on. Went to fill up near home and stood there while the gas cap said it was 25% ready to open. I sat there for a few minutes but it never got past 25% and called it off. I'll just get gas in the morning after charging. What gives? Does it really take a few minutes? I drove the tank empty, was it because of prolonged use? When I got home I tried again.. 75% ready. It had been a good 5 minutes since the gas station. Is this normal?

Usually only takes mine 20 seconds at most... I only ever fill the Rex when totally empty now I'm more comfortable knowing the range and burn rates.

I haven't noticed any environmental factors that effect how long for it takes to prepare for refueling: Extreme heat, below freezing, sea level, 6000', totally empty, partially empty.

I've never had an issue, although I've only filled mine twice in 8 months. That said, it appears that it isn't uncommon. From the owner's manual:

Quote:
Tank venting

1.Switch off drive readiness.

2.Press button to start the pressure equalization.

The status of the tank venting is displayed in the instrument cluster. In rare cases, the tank venting can last several minutes. If the tank venting has been completed, a message is displayed in the instrument cluster. The tank lid is released for opening.

3. Open the fuel filler flap. If the fuel filler flap is not opened within 10 minutes after the fuel filler flap was released, the fuel filler flap relocks. Press button again.

Manually unlocking fuel filler flap

In the event of an electrical malfunction, e.g.The release is located in the trunk.

1.Open hood, refer to page 183.

2.Pull the green knob with the fuel pump symbol. This releases the fuel filler flap.

3.Open the fuel filler flap.

4.Carefully open the fuel filler flap. Excess pressure can build up in the fuel tank from gasoline vapor.

5.Fuel the vehicle as usual. This may be difficult due to the residue pressure in the tank, caused by frequent stopping of the fuel pump nozzle, e.g.
