BIMMERPOST

The £100,000 BMW i8 is a plug-in performance hybrid due to be revealed at the 2013 Frankfurt show in September but evo was invited to drive a pre-production i8 at a secret test track in France this month, six months before we get to drive the production version. This video gives you a taste of what this revolutionary 155mph performance car for the future is going to be like to drive.

"It's very much an electric steering rack feel, isn't it"...Silence from the BMW guy.
Interresting car though.

Very interesting possibly groundbreaking car. However, In the 100k pounds + range I would definitely get a 911.

it does look cool, but it's hard to get excited about.

The price / performance means it's something that most people couldn't own (too expensive) or wouldn't own (not enough performance for that price).

So that's the large tire version? And it struggles to keep up with a 1 Series? I guess that's not the kind of advertisement they want to have.
And in the end he compares it to a Toyota G86... wich is a third of the price.

Nevertheless, interesting car with many good ideas. I want to drive it, but I dont want to spent 100000.

To get a real verdict on these new hybrid cars, they need a long term test. Sure you can hop in an drive it for 20 minutes around town or do a few laps around a track. But what is it like to live with day to day. How long does it stay charged with aggressive driving, how often do you need to charge it, how long does it take to charge, etc...

Image what would it be if it has a V10 from E60 M5 and get rid of all the hybrid stuff while still remaining the styling and use of CFRP... That would be what we've been waiting from BMW for decades!!!

thx for this j0hn! it sounds just fantastic! Mr. Harry Metcalfe says it all. It (the i8) is defining what the sports cars will be like in the future, but not just the 1 mio sports cars. anyone still not convinced about the noise!?

Let's hold final (negative?) judgment until the Production version is tested. The i8 is bound to go through a lot of software tweaks (at the very least) until it launches.

Lots of tyre squeal, looks like more work to get the handling right as there was notable under steer on some corners.

I really like it...

But cannot help thinking an M135i would be loads cheaper and you'd have to drive to the moon and back several times before you'd make a fuel saving overall against buy brice. Or even that you could buy an M4 plus a 320ED daily driver for similar money.

Like who the hell will fork out this kind of money on a hybrid car with relatively shitty performance (0-60 in 4.6? Didnt the F30 335xi do o-60 in 4.4? lol).

I just cant see People who can afford this price range car, wanting such sub par performance. Yes Im sure it will be super efficient and all that jazz, but it just doesnt make sense for the market its being targeted towards.

At least if it had the performance of a tesla model s with that crazy torque, it would have been a diff story.

Im saving up my $$$ for an R8 fitted with a proper super car lambo gallardo V10!

I wish BMW would have just put in the M5 engine in the i8, now that would have been a diff story

What a waste. A Tesla costs 100k, all electric. I love BMWs but with this pice tag, a Hybrid? Really? Time to get with the times and get rid of the internal combustion engine.

everyone saying that they should've dropped a v10 in it should go start a petition for BMW to make a supercar instead of complaining that their hybrid sports car isn't fitted with an engine that gets just about 7 miles to the gallon.
