Can the i3s really take down old muscle?

Staged and I'd rather drive old school muscle than something like an i3.

This old lifted big nuts truck with a huge American flag in the bed was next to me at a light here in LA. His idle was almost as loud as my M3 with an MPE at throttle. However, that night I was in my i3. Light turns green and the truck guns it, making all kinds of noise and spewing crazy amounts of black smoke. I have the i3 about a quarter throttle. He pulled far ahead, all the way up to the next light. I pull up to him again. The i3 sits pretty high, but his truck is lifted so I can?t see into the cab. The light turns green again, and once again the truck roars. This time I gave the i3 a little more throttle. The truck noticed this and I could hear the driver give it even more throttle than before, because it was even louder, which I didn?t think was possible. It was okay though, I was far enough ahead that the loud noises started to disappear behind me. The next light we line up again. Rinse repeat. I beat him off the light, the truck made a bunch of noise, and I beat the next light to red and he disappeared into the rear view mirror. The whole time the loudest noise the i3 made was the song playing on the radio.

What?s my point? I have nothing to prove when I drive my i3, but it?s nice to know that instant torque in city driving is much more useful than a carbureted V8 making 300hp on straight pipes sitting in a 4500lb truck with fake testicles hanging off the rear. I don?t need a fake pair of balls, I have real ones.

But yeah, the video is kinda lame. Drag racing is not what an i3 is for and that’s not why I drive one.

...and that?s not why everyone drives old muscle. The classics have an air of prestige about them and feel special to drive.

Bad marketing by BMW!

There is very little on the road that can even out accelerate the original i3 BEV, to 30mph It's always fun at the lights

That's funny as my BMW 1.5i 3 cylinder 225xe with battery power does 6.7sec 0-100kph. I'm not sure if it can accelerate faster than the original i3 BEV, to 30mph. BMW 225xe costs 15% less than the i3 BEV.

The 225xe is not available in the US, but the 225xe sells less than half the units the i3 does in Europe, and for a reason: If the AWD 225xe outperforms it yet does not outsell it, that just says that the i3 user base is not prioritizing performance as a condition for car ownership. Rightly so, since the i3 and the 225xe are not high performance cars. With the introduction of the i3s, maybe someone could scratch both itches if they are so inclined. The tepid 225xe reviews are probably influencing BMW to invest more into their more successful models.

Yes, and neither i3 BEV, i3s, nor 225xe are performance cars.

But this was precisely the point of the original post.

This is odd as the 225xe is a great tool. I believe it's the marketing BMW has not done and car reviews which are just a waste of paper. BMW 225xe costs a lot less than a 225x1 but has the some driving ability for school trips where most X1's will be driven.
You need to drive a 225xe with M Sport in sports mod to understand it's driving ability on holding corners and having some fun. This is what stopped me buying an i3 2 years ago.
The hardest car decision for me next year is if I replace my 225xe with a new i3s as the i3 has a few things missing over my 225xe.
My 225xe has covered 18,000ks and 66% of this is battery so the debate I'll be having with myself is if another 30% of battery distance is worth the cost to change to an i3s or I wait for the 225xe update which may have a longer range battery.
What I will add to a replacement 225xe is Harman/Kardon, Navigation plus, driver assistant plus, Apple Car Play and maybe a sunroof and would still be 10% cheaper than a basic i3.

But they are BMW's and they still should have BMW's "A Drivers Car" ability.

What is a performance car? Is it a car which goes fast in a straight line or handles corners beyond any other car in its price range. Myself I like the later.

It's straight line grunt, but more than that it is handling and grip, including cornering ability. Again, neither i3 BEV, i3s, nor 225xe are performance cars.

None of the cars you mention are performance cars but they do out preform other makes in the same category.

Yes but the performance aspect is neither the only nor the most important metric in which to judge them.
