He was told in Munich and Leipzig that we did want more power, as well as wider wheels and bigger brakes.

I dont think it needs more power tbh. We seemed to have become obsessed with power. I'd take more responsive and better feeling steering over more power any day of the week.

And better steering. Not sure how much more power is needed tbh, I got wider wheels and tires and the grip and steering is better. Still more power gives me bragging rights......i kid, i kid!

The reviews of the 2019 model indicate significantly improved handling; more neutral, taught, less understeer. That is very important to me. Plus enhanced real world instant power w improved battery/e power. Better seats. Enough to tip the balance to a 2019 rather than used, depending on deals. Weight reduction would be fun, but hard and $$$. Love to have an i8 under 3k lbs.! Recaros, no rear seats, no stereo, Li battery, all removable interior bits, 17 lbs. BBS FI or DIR wheels... But that starts to run contrary to the i8's strengths as a comfortable DD and GT cruiser.

More power. Wider wheels. Bigger brakes. Guys - that would be a different car. It would be an M. Not saying that’s necessarily bad. But it’s not what the i8is trying to be. And I assume we all knew that when we got one. Personally, I feel zero need to race M4s or Porsches or Audi RSs. I’m happy with the i8’s power as it is.

I think any electric performance sports car should be able to at least run low 3’s 0-60 and 11’s in the quarter. Sadly the i8 can’t do either

It's not just stats. It's the feeling associated with achieving those stats.

It actually has enough torque. Just needs an additional 100 hp to maintain its lead off a launch.

I 100% agree. 0-60 pull is great, just looses its balls above like 80-90. And the transmission is too slow I can feel lag between shifts.

Spot on. It is enough for the real world - one where there are very very few opportunities to explore how quickly it accelerates from 80 to 120 mph or beyond.

15 years ago I had an M5 - 400 bhp V8 manual with no turbocharger - and loved it. Then the power moved up so you couldn’t have a manual any more then it moved up again so you needed 4wd to transmit it all. I’m not saying that more power ruined it but that I don’t recognise the M5 today as the same experience (hence why I am in an i8).

Does he even believe his own bull$hit? I literally had my foot on the accelerator today for over 2 seconds, (mashed to the floor when switching between eco and sports mode) before I felt any torque push me back into my seat. I also think our transmission is terribly slow and the car needs some more fine tuning (quicker off the line, remove the stupid 75mph limiter on pure electric, maxhaust sound should be the OEM sound from BMW, etc...)

The speed limiter in pure electric protects the e motor from overspinning. But you’re welcome to try it and tell us what happens ...
