12 new electric BMW models by 2025, including i5

http://bmwi.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1420221

"By 2025, we will offer 25 electrified vehicles 12 will be fully-electric," BMW Chief Executive Harald Krueger told journalists in Munich, adding that electric cars will have a range of up to 700 kilometers (435 miles).

The Frankfurt motor show, which starts next week, will be used to unveil a new four-door electric car positioned between the i3 city car and the i8 hybrid sportscar, Krueger added.

Busy Busy BMW

While BMW has been relatively quite about future offerings--cancelling the i5 and mum on a replacement, also slow to upgrade the battery in the 2018 i3/i3s, it looks like they have been very busy planning an EV move. This is good news for us i3 lovers. Was wondering where "i" was going a couple of months ago. Now it looks like its wide open throttle/wide open electrons.

BTW: BMW is offering i3 Lease Loyalty of 1-3 grand to lease a remaining 2017 for the month of Sept. Just pulled the trigger on a REX, white, moonroof, HK sound, turbo charger, dark grey cloth interior.

Is this only for turning in a current lease for an i3? I dont see this on the BMW site.

Is it on web site?

I did not see it on web site. I heard it from my sales advisor, which he checked the latest offers as we were evaluating options. Planned to buy out my '15 REX, but this was cheaper. Its supposed to be an incentive for all those close out leases in 2015 that are now coming due. BMW wants to keep these owners in the fold. It worked for me.

Obviously, this took me out of the 2018 running, but I did not need the range, so it works for me. May not work for all.

As I recall, it may not be offered in all states. It is in Mass.

Turbo Charger?

This is not your fathers turbocharger. Its some sort of fancy unit that can work on 110vac or 220vac for faster charging.

This is what comes up on google. Not sure this is the unit, as I saw it in a box, but did not register the name exactly.

AeroVironment's Turbo Cord is the world's smallest dual-Voltage plug-in EV charger. The dual-Voltage plug-in design makes charging easy and provides the driver with the flexibility to charge anywhere. Turbo Cord comes standard with a 20 ft. cable and is UL listed for both indoor and outdoor charging. AeroVironment is the choice of thousands of drivers and preferred by more auto manufacturers including Nissan, Ford, FIAT, BMW and Mitsubishi. AeroVironment's Level 2 EVSE is safe, reliable and easy to use. Turbo Cord is the smallest UL-listed, Dual-Voltage EV charger on the market today.

Sorry for the confusion. Should have called it Turbo Cord?

"A global crackdown on diesel cars in the wake of Volkswagen cheating on emissions tests has raised pressure on carmakers to quickly develop electric alternatives."

This is rubbish as BMW has no plans to cut diesel engines.
It was the US who clamped down of diesel approvals last year.
VW was the only company who had to rush into EV cars due to there cheating.

No, blaming the US is rubbish. The emissions standards since 2007 have made it very expensive to clean up diesels. It's 2-3k more expensive when you have to include an expensive high-pressure fuel system and DEF/adblue injection system. Nothing has changed.

In the EU the VW scandal led to much more scrutiny on in-use emissions. It is a FACT that euro diesels meet emissions on the test cycle which emulates grandma driving to church, but then emit many times that much at operating conditions when off cycle. It's not cheating because the law doesn't require it, but now every entity with with a portable emissions tester can see how bad the diesels are. There isn't anything stopping the manufacturers from meeting emissions but it will cost the $2-3k just like the US requires.

In the US ground level ozone has continued to decline for many decades. In Europe they have been getting worse primarily due to diesel vehicles.
