BMW finally agreed to retro fit the lights on my car at delivery, so in June +1.

Can you tell us how they are compared to the lights we plebeians have?

The laser lights are pretty damn good, they really do illuminate pretty much the entire road as far as you can see. They are of most use on a country road and if you lived in the city then there's not much practical advantage to them.

The laser lights were not on the official list as an option when I got them last year. You had to specifically ask for them and then you had to "be approved by BMW" to have them, apparently. I think they wanted to control the number of them out and about in the wild.

Thanks. Is it true that these lights don't have the typical switch for high and low beams but do it automatically?

Sorry to ask, but this seems to be a matter of how you ask, as I have had so many questions. May I ask what department did you speak with? Did you go through BMW Nordic or AG? I would appreciate PM.

Not quite true, there is a big difference, one that is the main reason I want laser lights. The normal LED high beam assistant works on-off, in the laser lights they work as in my X5, they adapt to ongoing traffic and mask certain areas, so you actually can drive full high beams on all the time.

What does approved by BMW mean?

I would appreciate any advice on how to get these lights. I really want them, but BMW Nordic seems not be able to help as I am ordering directly from Germany and Germany first answered that they dont assist on cross boarder cases, but later told that they will get back to me. So I dont know yet what is going to happen. Not a nice situation to be in. I asked several times from the dealer, but they said it is not available and I stupidly believed them until I read the stories here.

Exactly that. They decide whether you can have them or not.
