Does IX M60 have a spare?
Was driving normally on regular streets when suddenly low tire pressure went off. I got out and can hear air leaving the tire.

Nope. Fewer cars these days have spares of any kind. Many just have goop inflators. BMW’s free roadside assistance might solve something that the goop can’t handle.

Are your tires run-on-flats? It seems the cars I have leased in Portland, OR only come with that and they also have warranties (time period/miles driven) on them so if you did get a huge puncture the tire is replaced by the dealership for free. Then they won't have a spare tire then. Had a huge nail one time in my X3 and got the tire replaced at no cost to me.

Sorry to hear it. Since you're already at a tire shop it seems you have answered your own question. No spare. None of the iX factory tire options are run flat.

Issue was a giant screw. They patched, sealed and balanced the tire and I was out in 10min. Good thing this happened nesr a 24/7 tire shop in my area. Of note the inside of the tires have padding. Never seen this before on any of my prior BMW’s. Any idea what its for? |

Glad that was relatively painless for you.
It's a concern for me, running relatively light weight tires with no spare, jack etc. I know time marches on & things change. Sometimes for the better; the price of going ev & my fantastico iX. Up till last year I lived in the boonies & ran 10ply KO2s or LTX with always a spare and rescue gear & tools. |

Yeah. Sorry to see you went through that. I’ve been through probably 20 patches since I moved to DFW. I live in a high construction area and hate this. My prior cars had run-flats, which were enormously helpful for my use case. Now I just carry a can of fix-a-flat with me and hope for the best. I’m never too far from a discount tire, but if I planned to actually take a road trip (which will never happen with the iX), I’d invest in a spare. If you know how to change your own tire, you can save yourself a ton of time.
Of note, discount tire will warranty your tires for about $250 versus >$3k through BMW’s wheel/tire policy. Over a decade, 2 dealerships, and 4 vehicles, I’ve never been able get them to discount it, so I never accepted it. |

Something like this is invaluable on a trip. I carry a kit similar to this and my battery powered inflator in the trunk. The kits are actually easy to use, and will help you get to a tyre store safely for a plug/patch kit.

Glad you asked because I assumed because that is what I have been given for the past 3 cars before this iX. I guess this one DOES NOT have ROF.

Does fix-a-flat goop work with ev tires with foam damping inside? Patch kits?
I would think a 235/60/R20xl replacement, even ignoring niceties of brand & tread issues, might be hard to find in stock locally. I'm tempted to keep a set of some in my shed. |

BMW's included goop kit works by report (several on these forums if you search). No, it doesn't work as well as with non-EV tires. And yes, the tire is probably history if you use it. Yes, you can patch an EV tire. Yes, you can also use run-flat tires in an EV (with the proper load rating). Yes, they're heavier, they're noisier, you'll get less range, and they ride worse. Just like they did with your ICE. No, they don't come OEM with any BMW EV. And you can carry a spare (also on these forums with a search). One is even included in some countries as an option. It just takes up about 50% of your cargo space and - of course - adds weight and reduces your range.

I just got the ‘modern spare” tire for trips. I got 2 nails a few weeks ago and go the tire repaired but in the process I found out that the GoodYear Touring tires I have are not available (backordered everywhere), so if one of my tires got damaged beyond a nail in it, I could not get a replacement.

Yeah I’ve only run non-EV and non-foam tires. The noise insulation in the iX is sensational. I was in my buddy’s Model Y last week and it sounded like I was in a 90s Honda Civic with the harsh ride and terrible noise insulation on top of the garbage interior.
You don’t need EV-specific tires for the iX. I’m just about finished with my daily 22” 285/45R22 set at 56k miles (45k on this set with 1 rotation). Going to replace them with Nitto NT420V 285/40R22 and also throw some Nitto Nomad Grappler 285/50R20’s on my winter 20” wheels. You can run mild A/T’s without a spare if you really want. Those goop kits will work for 90% of punctures but if your tire is torn up, you’re gonna need a flatbed. Better have stronger tires for roadtrips. |

The noise from the tires and the road, which in ICE cars is rarely heard, but in an EV are one of the most prominent sounds since there is no exhaust or engine noise to cover it.
