For $235k you can go snag a moderate mileage very well equipped Ferrari 458 Italia which not only outperforms the i8 but looks much better IMHO. I thought the Tesla loaded up to the max around 125k was about 40k heavy for what they offered but $235k for an i8 would make the Tesla look like a steal. Personally I would not pay MSRP for the i8. That said, everyone has the right to overpay for anything and to each their own. That is great for the dealer if they can pull it off. Another 400k in pure profit over the 4 allocated cars this year. That is pretty awesome for them! |

I agree $100k over sounds insane and a bit nuts, at the same time!
How much were Z8's going over sticker when they came out, anyone remember or know? Anyway, MSRP here as well, in writing, for a 2015 (2nd year production) i8; I wouldn't pay more than MSRP out of principle. I love the car but for $235k even I would be looking at other options, as much as I love this car. |

A whole lot of BS. My dealer told me I could have one under sticker and I passed. There will be many dealers later on, just not the first six months. Also every dealership that did the I training gets at least one.

At 137000, let's say 150000 CAD, I might be interested but paying 100k over is not gona happen even after I win the lottery. I wouldn't pay $100 over, it is unethical for them to do so and stupid for me to agree and contribute to this robbery. It is all about the principle. I hope no dealer will do that and that BMW will not allow such thing. I just wanted to know the real price of the car, that's it. Thank you for the info. I don't buy the 100k over one bit. Its just another way to hype up the car.
I do believe that they will all sell out. It is the first car that actually looks like its from the future.

Shop around, you can do better on the deposit than that, if it matters. Also make sure to have MSRP in writing. I've already heard of some dealers trying to up charge as much as $20,000 over MSRP for the i8.

I just came back from my local dealer with a test drive in the i3, amazing little car! Dealer said MSRP starts at $42k and they only plan to have roughly 70 alllocations for the YEAR! This is a pretty decent sized dealer too here.
Anyone know what the MSRP of the i8 will be?

i8 MSRP is $135,700 (source: bmwusa.com)
I also drove the i3 and was excited - it was a ton of fun! Compared to 70 i3 allocations, there is only 1 i8 allocation for the [first] year per dealer and not all dealers will get one! |

True - I always forget the tax credit. Seriously for this car that is a deal any way you cut it.

So are you going to get an i8? The deposit will also vary from dealer to dealer, btw. All first year allocations are already accounted for, anyway. So placing a deposit now you're looking at a 2015 or 2016 model. |

Just a heads up that my dealer only required a $1000, refundable. Larger deposits are usually meant for cars they would have a hard time selling if you backed out (a fully loaded $130k E63 Wagon). I don't think they'll have a problem finding a buyer if you backed out. I've got a written agreement with the dealership general manager's signature for MSRP as well.

If anyone knows any dealers with allocations, please let me know. I'm looking! All the chicagoland ones are spoken for.
Thanks!

Generally seems that all initial year allocations are spoken for nationwide, with people on a wait list for future years. However, let us know if you come across one.
