If you have seen the video of Ex BMW Design director Chris Bangle talking about Supercars in general then you understand BMW's decision previously in regards to Supercars.
Maybe the 'entire purpose of the project' was silly to begin with. Give us a real super car already, the i8 is great but don't fool yourself into thinking any sane person will think of it as a sports car, much less a super car. People who have the money for cars like this, at least from what I see, don't want to look like eco hippies we want to tear the road a new ass and light everything on fire with our Lamborghinis.

Forget V8 or V10, I'd love to see a new iteration of the legendary V12 you guys sold to McLaren in the 90s.

Come to Portland, my friend. Eco-hippies are us. Self-righteous ex-Californians that got rich when they cashed out of that housing market and are fed up with being laughed at in their Prius. AWD? Genius. One on every streetcorner if they can move the homeless long enough to park it.

I really dont wanna live in this kind of future. With bicycle weels and body made of plasic and air. And with 200K price.

Im ok with this tendency to save oil and planet but why i3 looks preaty same as daewoo matiz (4 cyl engine and costs literally nothing btw) and this one semi electric 3 cylinders something on toy weels - are u seriously about competing with audi r8 ?

Can BMW add a straight 6 turbo (N54, N55) to the engine option list?? PLEASEEEEEEEEE.

If the 200k rumor is true, damn thats expensive.

BMW has no intention to compete against the R8 and its ilk.

A supercar comes and goes... some linger , some dont, but they all get 15 minutes until the next one comes along.
BMW i8 is all about relevance and what does a sports car in the future do to survive especially in the age of sustainability and alternative drivetrains.

BMW i8 is cutting edge design with ground breaking technology and construction. Everyone else is turning petrol driven sports cars into electric cars. BMW are not that is why the BMW i8 is and will be a game changer.

Everyone knows what McLaren F1 is. Best Super car to date.

It has got to perform as well or better than the R8 to have cred.

+1 Perfectly stated. This is a different flagship, one that fits with mainstream vehicles like a 320d ED.

Hopefully the Z2 M will sync with some of the themes developed here: lightweight materials, efficiency. I am tired of bigger-heavier-more powerful.

Hope that a diesel variant can eventually be produced, but with such minute sales, there is no margin for engineering and certifying multiple powertrains.

i spied

This is hardly a 'spy' video. The car goes straight between a group of BMW employees and has no camoflage; it even has a BMW logo and advert on the numberplate. It is more likely to have been released by BMW's marketing department.
