I8 weak windshield

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
My i8 windshield is susceptible to nicks and tiny cracks that aren't big enough to fill or fix. It's frustrating. Does anyone else have this issue?

I started a thread about my cracked windshield a few months back (had to replace it) and got lots of guys with similar experience....windshield does seem weak.

I have had one windshield replaced. The windshield is weak because it is very thin. A typical BMW weight saving device. (Another questionable weight saving device? No spare tires on this car or the M cars -- which do not have runflats.)

Did your dealer replace it or a third party And what was the cost?

Mine cracked on Friday. Taking it to the dealer. Insurance should cover if you have full glass

Third party (Safelight) quoted me around $1085, but didn't have it in stock and wanted me to come in to have it done in a week. Safelight could not tell me if it was OEM. My dealer quoted me $3767 and had the windshield in stock.

Since my insurance deductible was $1000 and the insurance company paid everything over that, I took it to the dealer.

Wow look at that delta the dealers really crush us. I'll just tough it out on the windshield until next spring and then have it replaced probably. My luck as soon as it's replaced I'll chip it again.

I'm using ClearPlex on all my windshields, given the deplorable conditions of the Bay Area freeways. If you plan on tracking any of your cars, then it's definitely a must in order to avoid pitting from unavoidable debris. Also, it pays to get a top-notch installation outfit as it could make a substantial difference in clarity and in adhesion of the product. You may consider inquiring within the general auto forum, be it BMW or any other brand, to find a good local installer.
