2014 I8 A/C inop and P0CE1

Over the weekend I had a CEL pop on with code P0CE1 (Hybrid/EV Battery Coolant Control Valve "A" Stuck on). I am aware of the A/C compressor issues that have plagued some of these vehicles but I don't recall hearing any of the noises that are usually associated with this. I did check and the A/C is in fact not functioning so I am trying to sort out a plan of attack. From what I understand this sensor is related to the A/C refrigerant and not the engine coolant as it is the refrigerant that cools the Hybrid battery. Does anyone know if an issue with this control valve could cause the A/C itself to go down? Or does it sound like the compressor likely failed, sent debris through the lines and brought down the valve? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You are correct about the AC compressor failing on the early i8’s.
Because you say that the AC is not functioning along with the CEL code for the stuck valve it could possibly be the compressor coming apart.
Replacing the AC compressor is not that expensive. I had mine replaced just as a precaution.
Sounds like it’s time for a trip to the BMW dealer. Good luck.

My intentions are to repair myself as I genuinely enjoy working on my vehicles and there are just too many horror stories out there of $20k quotes from BMW after compressor failure on these vehicles. With that being said I am trying to form the best plan of attack so that I am being as thorough as possible. I suppose I will start by evacuating the system and pulling the valve to check for debris and check functionality. I can then dig a bit deeper looking for debris but will likely just go ahead and replace the compressor, condenser and valve(s) anyway. Does anyone know if the battery cooler lines would need removed in order to flush?

I would attempt to get a goodwill repair. Make the request at the dealer.

it seems very common to the point its worth pre-emptively replace the compressor

This is the #1 issue people talk about with i8s it should be part of a recall if anybody knows any lawyers they should bring it to BMWs attention.

I was told they updated the part on the LCI cars; but they are too new for us to really know if problem has been resolved.
