Should I? $0 drive off, $184 a month including tax, 20k/24months
Hi all,
I was offered by my salesman a 2016 i3 with REX, parking package, and 20in wheels for about $184 a month with CA 9% sales tax. This is with absolutely nothing out of pocket. 2yr/20k term Does this sound like a solid deal or should I wait until the 2017s hit the lot? The greater range for the 2017s get my weary... I feel like I might be able to do even better on the 2016 if the 2017s arrived.

Please post the MSRP, agreed upon price, residual, MF, and any and all fees. Quote:
After you code the REX to use full 9L tank (vs. 8L US default), you will be looking at anywhere from 150-200 miles, depending on the speed and terrain. Depending on the MF and residual, the 2016's lease terms may already have been discounted in the anticipation of the MY'17s. a

Sounds like a pretty good deal regardless of msrp. Total lease cost is about 4000$. If you qualify for the 2500 CA clean air rebate its down to about 2000$ for trying out an i3 for 2 years...
I'm pretty sure dealers are trying to get rid of the 16s in anticipation of the greater range version coming. Who knows what deal you will get on the 17 model. If you like the Rex 16' that youre looking at and don't mind the 80 mile range then go for it!

No, BEV range is roughly 80 miles, REX is higher. And, CA program is currently out of funds and even if it weren't, you'd still need a 30-month lease to qualify. All that being said, it looks like a good deal on a REX. |

We just picked up basically the same but with a 30 month. Keep in mind the 2500 back from Cali only applies if you do at least a 30 month lease. 24 won't qualify.
Keep in mind funding ran out for the time being. Not sure if it'll get replenished. My guess is that it will. 2017 seems enticing, but the pricing is aggressive for the 16s and BMW isn't giving the 7500 credit on the 17s right now (at least when we looked last month). Basically the price of about 200 a month was too good to pass up. |

One thing to consider - i3's are not very good highway vehicle. At highways speeds, especially with cross winds, it's directionally unstable and requires constant steering correction to keep straight. Narrow tires also tend to tramline (follow ruts in the road). I've all but given up taking my i3 out for major trips. Perfect and super-maneuverable for commuting around on shorter trips, though. On batteries - yes (under 90% of the usual driving situations). I once did 100.x miles on batteries on REX, but that was strategically crawling around on back roads. Under normal commute circumstances, expect fewer than 80 miles on the highway. Less than that in the winter. Way less in winter on the highway (as low as 50-60 miles). But then REX kicks in, and you get another 60-100 miles, depending on the speed and terrain. YMMV (literary), a

I've heard both. One camp says there is no way California won't subsidize electric cars is some way. Other side says the cap and trade program is running into so many legal issues, it'll be on permanent hiatus.
I kind of fall in camp one. California always wants to be on the forefront of clean. I think it'll come back in some fashion. |

Gotcha. If the program kicks in in the future, would it only apply to new purchases? Or would a recent purchase count?
