For all the guys that don't daily drive, I want to know what the lowest temp is you take the i8 out in.

It is 49 degrees here today in NJ, but it is sunny out. Would you guys take it out on a day like today?

Yes I would, the turbo engine will work best in 50-60 degree temps.

Rain? What's that?

A few months after I got the i8 I went across town to have it re-coded. It was raining. On the way home, around 7 pm it was pouring. Rather than take the freeway and endure the 405-101 freeway interchange heading north, which is often flooded during heavy rainstorms, I decided to play it safe and get off the freeway and take Ventura Blvd.

So I'll drive the i8 in the rain, but I will be very careful going through flooded intersections and other areas of flooding.

To ask this question, you must have reasons why you wouldn't take it out on a day like that. I'm curious ...

I don't own an i8, not yet
But if I had one, I would go out WITH it and drive in the rain. Not that the rain doesn't matter, it does matter. But, it's just, I like to wash my car with my hands, not the hands of nature.

It's been raining a lot here in the Bay Area (surprisingly). Although I have a Range Rover as well, sometimes I've still been taking the i8 out. I'm consistently blown away by the wet grip. I'm definitely more cautious overall, but I never get the sense of slipping. It amazes me how hard I can still launch without breaking the tires loose.

The narrow tyres of the i8 means it is better in the wet than other sports cars.

It rained here in LA yesterday, was the first time i got rain since buying the car a few weeks ago. I was very surprised of how well it gripped the wet road, and moved around like it was a dry day out. My last car was a '14 M6 and it was HELL to drive in the rain, especially accelerating from a stop. So I was very reluctant of driving my i8 in the rain, but it handle that water like it was it's Bi*ch

Had mine out in the very wet yesterday - drove through a flood in the road, bit nervous but got through. Went to e-drive just in case because I think the air intake is low on these cars.

Anyway, handling was fun, too much traffic to really enjoy but flooring it seemed to spin the rears without squirming and no traction control interference - felt impressive. I suspect the computer varies the "pull" from the front motor in response to the "push" from the back to stop it kicking out or squirming around.

my feeling exactly...very fun in the wet, not so much in the snow.

much better than the deathtrap that was the m5.

i read a whole series of posts about grip levels on the i8, i can easily get the car to squirm on stock tyres, so I don't necessarily (??) subscribe to aftermarket tyres not being better.

btw my gearbox issue happened before i drove through snow and flood

In the torrential rain first drive was impressive . However, following the drive over the water sent these messages , not a big deal though

One Rear End Collision Warning other is Pedestrian Warning

I get these when I drive in downpours. No big deal.

I also get them when I'm killing bugs at high speeds! The bugs are a real PITA as they really stick to the front lens and get dried on from the air blast.

I've seen that in torrential downpours. Nothing to worry about.

Was beginning to think my car was acting differently to everyone else's so good to know yours is the same Mighty

I've got 15k on mine and the tyres will need replacing probably in the spring so I'll go as wide as poss on the 20 inch BMW rims.

We've had a bit of snow down here in the penines but no time to get the car out for a play - how's it been in Scotland?

In Los Angeles I used to get warnings about the front camera when the morning sun came up and blinded the camera (and many of my fellow drivers on the 101 freeway).

Homes Scotland but Im down in the Peak District mon-fri. Not so bad, we will see in Feb/Mar.

I remember a few old posts in this Forum about saying you will never struggle with grip on stock tyres unless your a racing driver around a track. Rubbish... a racing driver I am not, and I can regularly get wheel spin on the stock tyres (under 5k miles at present). I think it needs more rubber so I have thought of upsizing as well as so many people have done.

First day I owned it, the weather turned from snow to rain. So, yes, I drive it in the rain. :-)
