Mid-$40k most likely. Plus, green people don't care about what brand's emblem is on the car, they just want to save the planet. When you can buy a Leaf or Prius for less than half the cost. That will be the problem.

Lol really? This was the final straw? This design and its arrival has been known for years.....some of these comments are so lame. I personally think the concept is pretty interesting, and the concept and design are well executed for the intended purpose which is a near zero emission, premium car for large urban environments. But hey let's bash BMW for a car no one here has sat in or drove, just because it looks different. Screw taking risk, while we are at it BMW should have just stuck with motorcycles, and never made cars.

Wtf is this? Seriously, would anyone buy this thing if it was missing the kidney grille and the BMW signage? Yuck! BMW needs to fire the designers and the management. 10 billion wasted on this crap. I doubt the i8 is going to be any good either or worth the expense. No thanks.

Get the price right and it has a chance. Government policies will drive the majority of city use the way of electric within 10 years like it or not. Makes some sense really just keep the M car for weekends.

Here's my take for what it's worth.

From latest I heard in Europe, the price for this car was gonna be ca 45000 EUR. This is like 60k USD. Now, given how pricing works between US and Germany for example, I assume that it will be 45k USD in USA (basically take EU VAT average out of 20% and you'll be in the ballpark). For comparison a base 3 series now costs ca 29000 EUR (which is like 316 or something, so I guess the nicer version comparable to US is more like 35k EUR - or closer to what you pay for 328i before options, right?)

So, with such a premium, this is a car that might make sense only with subsidies I'm afraid.

But I do like it very much. Just think Audi A2 was there already 10 years ago with this design, the glass roof, the sloping rear quarter etc.. That car was ahead of its time and very expensive (all alu). So it was destroyed by the Polo/Golf and so on. BMW i car can suffer same fate if it's overpriced.

What most people should realize is that car manufacturers need to get volumes of these cars up and running in order to make them more affordable. The carbon plastic they use makes a lot more sense than steel, but only when made in high production volumes. They are clearly trying (investing into the plants) but it will take time. I'm very happy they allowed the car like I8 and I3 into production.

I'm also surprised they got away with that Apple like name registration! Should have named it B instead though. Not so much copy cate.

why must all...

why must all EV be so ugly????
Look at Tesla - it is possible to make a EV attractive, or even more attractive then a regular car.

thanks. that's reassuring somewhat. 45k originally they said was gonna be crazy. 35k plus this car can qualify for some subsidies might make it worth like 25k-30k as lease. I can easily see myself buying this at that price.

I am most curious at this point about the range extended (ReX) implementation. It is reported to be using the C650 scooter engine. I am a fan of BMWs parallel twin design and I think this will be a novel use of it.

Sadly I think those tires and rims are the same size or bigger then the X3 and X5. Narrower yes but overall diameter they might be right on.

I'm not sure they did it any harm either. It's not the prettiest thing on four wheels. In fact, it looks like a tiny minivan to me.

I don't care how efficient it is...ugly and expensive is never a good combination.
