2018 LCI i8 New Features
I've had my eye on the i8 for some time, having initially placed an order for a 2014 car that didn't come to pass for a variety of reasons. Now I have my eye on the 2018 Life Cycle Impulse (LCI) refresh car that I suspect will be revealed at this year's Frankfurt Auto Show, like was done for the initial rollout.
I'm curious to know what new features/changes you all would like to see in this next version of the i8. Here is my wish list: * More power and longer e-range (probably a given for everybody) * Wider tires and more wheel style options * Adaptive cruise control * Remote parking feature now available on the 7 series for getting in and out of those tight spaces. This would require my next item. * Display key. Originally planned for the 2014 car but held back for some reason. Now available as a special order option. * Blind spot detection * Electronic panoramic rear view mirror. Shown at CES but may not be legally allowed yet. * Motorized steering wheel position adjustment * European delivery option I don't know how many of these might be coming, but regardless, I'm putting in an order for the 2018 car as soon as they are available. Final question, what do you all expect will be MSRP for the 2018 base car. I'm guessing $150K. |

I have the hill hold on my 2016 i8. Foot down on the brake while on a uphill gradient and it holds for 5 seconds. Exactly the same as my old M5.
Display key is now standard |

The 6 and 7 have a toggle switch. If you depress it at any time, when you come to a complete stop you have hill hold until you step on the accelerator.

Commenting on your wish list:
* More power and longer e-range - only if no more weight * Wider tires and more wheel style options - agreed * Adaptive cruise control - agreed * Remote parking feature now available on the 7 series for getting in and out of those tight spaces. This would require my next item. -agreed * Display key. Originally planned for the 2014 car but held back for some reason. Now available as a special order option. - now standard * Blind spot detection - biggest waste of money option ive ever had * Electronic panoramic rear view mirror. - nah, faffy, nowt like the real thing * Motorized steering wheel position adjustment - no chance, will add weight * European delivery option - cant avoid it living in the UK 😊 I'd add: * Further options on the ICE upgrades * heated steering wheel * SD card slot in addition to USB * bigger HDD on the ICE * improvements to the dash display to include sat nav mapping etc like the latest audis * 'sports exhaust' switch to give you variable volume and aggression on the exhaust sound * interior mood lighting to change with driving mode Just being picky really.... The price question is an interesting one, i suspect similar to current model but no deals initially, convertible + $20k |

That would mean bye bye CFRP roof. So I'd say unlikely. The spyder will take care of that though.

Being able to use the individual camera lenses particularly the side mirror ones side to side for tight spaces with kerbs. The existing overhead view is not accurate enough for me and too artificial.
I have this function in my Range Rover and it is superior to the BMW system |

OP's tally is very neat
Besides I would love to see : Bigger fuel tank capacity SD Card Slot Bottom flat steering wheel ,it's cool getting it cut flat DVD Changer ,not much of use but I love anyway Redesigned A/C Control Unit same as present G11/12 7 Series and G30s have Comfort seats , ok this is not necessary and that's not 7 Series Coupe , just saying

All it needs IMHO is:
Wider wheels & tyres Bigger brakes Gear indicator & RPM in HUD in Sports mode BIG gear indicator in dash in Sports mode Memory seats Very nice to have: DisplayKey to move i8 forward & back remotely like 7 series Nice to have: Adaptive cruise control Self parking Unlock the electric motor fully ECU tune for a little more bhp |

As we know, the key thing with the i8 is efficiency - and performance - and bonkers looks.
So with that in mind, I'd like to see features that wouldn't add weight but make more of what's already there. -Better grip with wider rubber (lighter wheels to offset any weight increase) -Increase to battery density (can be done with no weight increase) -De-restrict the electric motor -More power from the gas engine by increasing rev limit rather than capacity (probably need a full re-design to accomplish this though so unlikely to happen) Having said that, I wonder if they could do a 4-pot engine with offset pistons (like VW did with the VR6 engine) to keep it compact but more power. Would likely add too much weight, impact efficiency and not fit with the modular approach BMW have at the moment for their engines.

Don't know about your year / US model. But mine has an automatic 2 sec. hill hold. No parking brake required. Just move off the brake and onto the accelerator within 2 secs.

I've got that, too. But at stop lights I'd like to take my foot off the brake pedal.
