Engine mounting bolt recall
My dealer advised that i3's require a bolt changed in the motor mountings plus software change.
It appears that if an i3 becomes airborne and under power the wheels spin up and on landing this puts stress on the motor mountings. I think the software change is probably to restrict the spin up of the wheels in such a situation. It is probably a San Francisco owner doing a Steve McQueen stunt that found the weakness |

My software version went from I01-15-07-502 to I01-15-11-502. Not sure how much good it really does, as the REX engine mounts seam to be the consistent weak point. A new bolt is the step in the right direction. Upgraded engine mounts may be the ultimate answer, but its sounds like we are a few recalls away from that ;-). a

What's the full version #? BMW seams to be rolling updates out in a 6-month cycle (May & November), and follows the version number naming convention of I01-YY-MM-502. Here is the November'15 software update TSB: http://cdn.bmwblog.com/wp-content/up...e-november.jpg a

You can see how REX engine is mounted on top of electric motors, and the entire assembly moves a LOT. Additional weight of the REX engine can not help but exacerbated the stresses on the engine mounts, so it's a contributing factor to their wear and tear. What I don't know is whether REX and BEV engines use the same engine mounts, or if REX ones are beefed up a bit (clearly not enough). So far, the early engine mount failures have mostly been showing up on REX cars. But with that much lateral movement, it's only a function of time before they age, crack, and break on both types of cars. a

I think it happened to my Rex today. Drivetrain malfunction message and then clunking noise from the rear of the car on acceleration, deceleration and turning. Getting it towed to the dealer tomorrow.

BEV's, although less common, have also had engine mount failures.

Had the recall done last week and got the upgrade to the display (adds % and some power indicators) - from what I read the BEV gets one bolt changed and the REX gets two.

Dropped my car off at the dealer for renewed rear suspension clunk, they claimed ignorance of any recalls or TSBs for my VIN. Does anyone know the TSB / notice # for engine mount bolts? TIA, a P.S.: Asked them not to touch the programming this time. I grew tired of reprogramming the car after each and every non-essential software bug fix.

Dealer called today that transmission was damaged as well. They will be replacing the transmission and the rear axle.
